Biden Is Polling Better Than Clinton Was--and Has Five Times the Cash Too

Biden Is Polling Better Than Clinton Was—and Has Five Times the Cash Too

Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton's campaigns were always going to be compared, with those who wrongly predicted a Donald Trump defeat in 2016 searching for patterns in their respective presidential bids.

In polling, Clinton was ahead right up to election day, while Biden finds himself similarly leading the president this time around.

Despite this sense of deja vu, there are differences this time out—Biden's lead in the polls is stronger than Clinton's ever was. He also has five times the cash on-hand she did at around the same point, according to his campaign.

In July 2016, the Clinton campaign reported it had around $44 million cash on-hand to fund her bid.

This pales in comparison to the amount Biden reportedly has at present, with the Democratic hopeful's campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon writing on Twitter there was $242 million cash on-hand.

------------

As well as this financial advantage to Clinton, Biden's polling lead is more solid than hers was.

According to FiveThirtyEight, Biden's lead is around 9.1 points as of July 15, calculated by assessing an average of national polls. At other points he has held a 9.6 point lead.

Clinton's advantage over Trump on the same date in 2016, according to FiveThirtyEight, was 3.6. Her advantage peaked at 8 points a month later in August 2016, the average showed.

A new national poll from CNBC/Change Research gave Biden a 10-point lead, with 1,258 likely voters across the U.S. polled from July 10 to 12.

average age of COVID patients at SF hospital is 41: 'We are all at risk'

SF Health Director says average age of COVID patients at SF hospital is 41: 'We are all at risk'
By Alyssa Pereira, SFGATE

San Francisco Department of Public Health Director Dr. Grant Colfax stated in a virtual press conference Friday that while the state of California experiences a resurgence of the coronavirus, the average age of those hospitalized at the city's Zuckerberg General is just 41 years old.

The revelation, he says, suggests that the virus can seriously affect not just "the elderly and most frail," but also people much younger and healthier.

"Young people, middle-aged people, older people," he said, "we are all at risk for this disease and all at risk of serious consequences."

The coronavirus has surged locally in the Bay Area in the last two weeks, prompted in part by residents' "complacency," as San Francisco Mayor London Breed stated. A big factor in the spread of the virus during that time frame has been people taking part in gatherings with those outside of their homes, often unmasked. She cited one example involving a disaster services worker in the city, whose roommate went camping with more than a dozen people and contracted the virus, endangering the city worker. (The worker, she added, fortunately went on to test negative.)

"The point is that gatherings remain inherently dangerous and you need to give a lot of thought to if they're worth it and you can do it safely," she said. "Can you wear a mask the whole time? Can you be socially distant? Can you wash your hands?"

Both Breed and Colfax urged city residents to wear masks and to refocus their efforts to stop the spread of the virus. As of Friday, the city has 4,975 cases, with 52 reported deaths. More than half, 56%, of those who tested positive have been age 40 and under.

"We have flattened this curve once and we must do it again," Breed stated. "What I'm afraid of is the complacency. People are tired of the virus but the virus is not tired of us."

Conservative talk-radio host Dennis Prager, 71, bemoans the loss of racial slurs in society

Conservative talk-radio host Dennis Prager, 71, bemoans the loss of racial slurs in society to describe black people
Dennis Prager from right-wing Salem Radio Network went on air to complain how society no longer uses offensive slurs coined during the era of slavery
Prager, 71, went on to list various words that are no longer being used
Twitter users were quick to roast Prager's preaching
Earlier this month he called the coronavirus lockdowns the 'greatest mistake in the history of humanity'

'How many names have Blacks gone through in my lifetime?...What was wrong with Negro? What was wrong with colored? African American? Black? Four different titles for the same human being. There's no problem with any of them,' Prager said in a clip from his radio show posted to Twitter.

Troy Harlow has always made sure to pay his mortgage on time. Wells Fargo had other plans for him.

CORONAVIRUS
Troy Harlow has always made sure to pay his mortgage on time. Wells Fargo had other plans for him.

Lawyers say they've found cases in 11 states in which Wells Fargo has wrongly claimed borrowers asked to pause mortgage payments during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Troy Harlow has always made sure to pay his monthly mortgage bill on time, even after he filed for personal bankruptcy protection in late 2017 following a kidney transplant that put him on permanent disability.

"I needed to have a place to live," Harlow said in an interview. "I keep everything paid because I know it has to be paid."

But Wells Fargo, the bank that handles Harlow's mortgage, had other ideas for him.

On April 29, without Harlow's knowledge or permission, Wells Fargo told the bankruptcy court overseeing his payment plan that he had asked the bank to pause his mortgage payments because he had been hurt by COVID-19. Harlow, 48, of Buchanan, Virginia, made no such request and had continued to forward the full amount owed on his mortgage to Wells Fargo, court documents show.

The bank claimed that it had placed Harlow in a forbearance program, a temporary arrangement under the CARES Act aimed at helping borrowers who attest to financial hardship related to the coronavirus. Under the program, borrowers whose loans are financed by government-sponsored entities like Fannie Mae and Ginnie Mae can stop making payments for up to a year. Harlow's mortgage was originated by the Federal Housing Administration and went into a pool of loans sold to investors by Ginnie Mae.

"I was just astounded that this was going on behind my back," Harlow said. "I hope we can get this straight, because I do not want to lose my house."

As Trump refuses to lead, America tries to save itself

As Trump refuses to lead, America tries to save itself

(CNN)President Donald Trump isn't leading America much as its pandemic worsens. But that's not stopping Walmart -- along with Kroger, Kohl's, and city and state leaders and officials -- from making the tough decisions that the President has shirked.

Given Trump's approach, if the country is to exit the building disaster without many more thousands dead, it will fall to governors, mayors, college presidents and school principals, teachers and grocery store managers to execute plans balancing public health with the need for life to go on.

There were growing indications Wednesday that such centers of authority across the country are no longer waiting for cues from an indifferent President whose aggressive opening strategy has been discredited by a tsunami of infections and whose poll numbers are crashing as a result.

-------'

More school districts -- in Houston and San Francisco, for example -- are defying the President's demand for all kids to go back to class in the fall.

Democratic Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly signed an executive order to delay opening schools until after Labor Day. Alabama, perhaps the most pro-Trump state in the nation, introduced mask-wearing requirements for public places on Wednesday. Montana issued its own recommendation on masks. Massive retail chains Walmart, Kohl's and Kroger will require shoppers to wear masks in the coming days, confirming an emerging national consensus that face coverings -- far from being an infringement of freedom -- could be a lifesaver.

One of the NFL's most storied franchises, the Green Bay Packers, will play the preseason without fans. Even Trump's frequent protector, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, broke with the President's magical thinking as he stumped through his increasingly afflicted home state of Kentucky. McConnell said that while "there were some that hoped" the coronavirus will go away, it isn't.

Hundreds of appointees are being re-interviewed regarding loyalty to Trump

In the middle of a devastating pandemic and searing economic crisis, the White House has an urgent question for its colleagues across the administration: Are you loyal enough to President Donald Trump?

The White House’s presidential personnel office is conducting one-on-one interviews with health officials and hundreds of other political appointees across federal agencies, an exercise some of the subjects have called “loyalty tests” to root out threats of leaks and other potentially subversive acts just months before the election, according to interviews with 15 current and former senior administration officials.

The interviews are being arranged with officials across a wide range of departments including Health and Human Services, Defense, Treasury, Labor and Commerce and include the top tier of Trump aides — Senate-confirmed appointees. Officials are expected to detail their career goals and thoughts on current policies, said more than a dozen people across the administration with knowledge of the meetings.

White House officials have said that the interviews are a necessary exercise to determine who would be willing to serve in a second term if President Donald Trump is reelected. But officials summoned for the interviews say the exercise is distracting from numerous policy priorities, like working to fight the pandemic, revitalizing the economy or overhauling regulations, and instead reflect the White House’s conviction that a “deep state” is working to undermine the president.

It’s “an exercise in ferreting out people who are perceived as not Trump enough,” said one person briefed on the meetings.

-----
The re-interviewing exercise is being led by Johnny McEntee, a 30-year-old Trump aide dating back to the 2016 campaign who was installed earlier this year as chief of the White House personnel office, responsible for filling thousands or jobs across the federal agencies.

The interviews can take the form of general questions such as an appointee’s career goals, but the interviews can also veer into territory meant to test a person’s perceived loyalty, like asking for the appointees’ thoughts on the U.S. relationship with China, or asking probing questions about why an appointee was chosen for his or her current job. Interviewers have also asked people to give examples of ways they are supporting the administration.

“It just seems like you could be a rocket scientist, but all they care about is whether you are MAGA,” said one senior administration official familiar with the interview process. “It is fair to do something to prepare to fill jobs in a second term, but right now, it is hard to know what the metrics are with this personnel office for being successful. There is no set criteria for what makes a good political appointee.”

Liberty County deputies arrived at the scene near Dunlevie Road, where they found what appeared to be a female body
Policy calls for deputies not to touch dead bodies until coroners arrive so they covered the 'body' with a sheet
Once the coroner arrived, personnel realized that the body was that of a sex doll
Detectives said it was anatomically correct, with realistic features and was fully dressed
It seemed like a major crime for Allenhurst, a town of less than 700 people in southeast Georgia.

A female body was spotted by the railroad tracks at around 2pm on Tuesday, not far from Dunlevie Road. Liberty County deputies gathered at the scene and waited for the coroner.
