Yang: Bloomberg is telling donors not to give to Democrats in the Primary

Former Democratic primary competitor Andrew Yang, now a CNN contributor, told a post-debate panel that self-funding billionaire candidate Mike Bloomberg is calling major party donors and asking them sit out the 2020 primary, in order to starve his rivals of much-needed campaign cash.

Yang made his startling claim in the aftermath of the Nevada debate, attributing the claim to one of his own previous donors who he said heard Bloomberg’s plea first-hand.

“People don’t have any money. You’re shaking your head. You know the story,” CNN’s Gloria Borger pointed out, addressing Yang. “And who has the money to compete other than Bernie Sanders right now and Michael Bloomberg?”

“That’s the great question: Is, could Elizabeth [Warren] or Joe [Biden] or Amy [Klobuchar] or Pete [Buttigieg] have a break-out night that leads to tens of millions of dollars of donations,” Yang noted. He then dropped a bombshell, explaining that major Democratic donors are, “frankly, getting phone calls from Mike Bloomberg right now saying ‘Sit this one out, I got this.'”

“If you’re a donor, not donating is a pretty appealing pitch,” Yang added, laughing.

“Sorry, but could you say that again?” CNN reporter Dana Bash pressed. “Mike Bloomberg is calling donors saying ‘Don’t give to my opponents?'”

“Mike Bloomberg is calling donors, saying: ‘Hey, just sit this out, I got this, I’ll bankroll the whole thing. Just don’t donate to anybody.”

“You heard this or know this?” Chris Cuomo said, jumping in.
“I heard it from a major donor,” Yang replied.
“Your donor?” Bash asked.
“Yes,” Yang confirmed. “A donor said that. And it’s a person who donates to a number of candidates, ordinarily, says these are the phone calls that Mike’s been making.”

Talk about a billionaire using his power and influence to derail the democratic process.

And yet some people keep insisting that Bloomberg should be our Democratic nominee?!?

Why did Bloomberg decide to siphon votes from the Biden Campaign, thereby helping Sanders?

People are Lying when they say Bloomberg is not hurting Biden

It seems Bloomberg's sole purpose in entering the 2020 Democratic Primary was to siphon off support from frontrunner Joe Biden and split the moderate field. Allowing Bernie Sanders to move ahead of the fractured field.

In any case, regardless of Bloomberg's intentions, that is exactly what he is doing.

Looking at these poll trackers, we see Bloomberg's rise is directly due to siphoning votes away from Joe:

Biden's campaign will revive in Nevada and SC leading into Super Tuesday, where he will get a significant number of delegates but not as many as he would have if Bloomberg didn't decide to enter the race and ruin Joe's chances.

Thanks to Bloomberg, Bernie Sanders will emerge from Super Tuesday as the single candidate with the most delegates.

I am going to infiltrate a local Sanders supporters meeting this evening.

I have purchased a #Bern It All Down t-shirt as my disguise along with wearing the DNC pin I got off of ebay UPSIDE DOWN as a show of defiance against the establishment.

My number one goal will be to find out whom this dedicated band of political activists see as the WEAKEST opponent to Bernie.

Who is it really that they wish to meet in the final face-off for the 2020 Democratic Nomination?

Yes, I realize that as a Warren supporter I am taking my life in my hands going on this mission, but someone has to do it for the sake of the Democratic Primaries Forum here on DU.

Wish me godspeed, and I will see you all on the other side.

Axelrod: Biden's frustrated with Bloomberg's deceptive ads

https://twitter.com/davidaxelrod/status/1229073072373846018

"Biden’s frustrated Bloomberg, who wasn’t that close w/ @BarackObama, has created impression thru clever, ubiquitous ads that 44 has endorsed him, which he has not."

Bloomberg's ads are very deceptive in that regard.

But hey, if Biden and his supporters don't set the record straight soon, it will be too late for Joe's campaign.

Bloomberg STILL has NOT Qualified for the Nevada Debate!

https://twitter.com/TrackerDebate/status/1229088166281457664

"@MikeBloomberg may be kept out of (or saved from) the debate due to a lack of national polling."

And that is enraging Democrats in the responses who feel it is unfair for him to parachute into Super Tuesday without facing the other candidates on the debate stage.

There are only two debates left before Super Tuesday:

February 19th in Las Vegas, NV

February 25th in Charleston, SC

Warren doubles down on a surprisingly risky pitch: Democratic unity

So far, primary season contenders vying to unite the left and middle have flopped. Heading into Nevada, the Massachusetts senator is gambling she can break that streak.

Beto O'Rourke tried it. Kamala Harris tried it. Cory Booker tried it. And one by one, they all flamed out. Now, Elizabeth Warren is pitching herself as the Democratic candidate who can unify the party's progressive and moderate wings, a play that could lead her down the same bridge to nowhere, unless her message can quickly find some resonance.

The Massachusetts senator has pleaded with voters not to pick a divisive nominee who risks paving the way for President Donald Trump's re-election, telling a devoted crowd of supporters Tuesday in Manchester, New Hampshire, that she was Democrats' "best chance" of marshaling "a unified party" to the voting booths come November.

"The problem that Warren has is all of the Bernie people think she's a neoliberal shill and all of the centrists think she's a raging Maoist," said Sean McElwee, a left-wing organizer and analyst at Data For Progress whose work has been cited by the Warren campaign. "The people who want 'Medicare for All' don't believe she wants it, and the people who don’t want Medicare for All do believe she wants it."

Surprising, isn't it?

That Democratic Unity is a risky and hard to accomplish pitch?

Biden, Klobuchar hit Bloomberg's record ahead of Nevada debate

Former Vice President Joe Biden and Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar took aim Sunday at former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg ahead of this week’s Democratic presidential debate.

Bloomberg hasn’t yet qualified for Wednesday’s NBC News and MSNBC debate in Las Vegas, but has through Tuesday to meet the party’s criteria.

With that potential clash looming, both Biden and Klobuchar criticized Bloomberg in interviews with “Meet the Press” at a time when the former mayor faces increased scrutiny over past comments about race, policing and women at his eponymous company.

“$60 billion can buy you a lot of advertising, but it can't erase your record. There's a lot to talk about with Michael Bloomberg,” Biden said, approximating Bloomberg’s net worth.

“You take a look at the stop-and-frisk proposals. You take a look at his ideas on redlining he's talking about. You take a look at what he's done relative to the African American community. I'm anxious to debate Michael on the issues relating to, you know, what we're going to face in Super Tuesday.”

“It's going to be awful hard to go out and win those — the base support of the Democratic party, the African Americans, Latinos and working class white folks, and put that coalition together. That's how you win an election. You put that coalition together,” he added.
