Putin's Own Goals: Russia is supplying NATO with 'free chicken'

What would take years and years for the intelligence community to find out ...we’re getting free every day.

Gleaning Russian military tactics as easy as ‘free chicken,’ U.S. official says

A U.S. defense official spoke of efforts that began last fall to assess Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and position its forces to best utilize sophisticated weaponry and tactics against a larger opposing force. Ukrainian Stinger operators are continually being trained in Germany, said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity under rules set by the Defense Department.

The U.S. defense official described a bonanza of information the American military has gleaned about Russian “tactics and procedures” by watching “how they perform in combat” since the Feb. 24 invasion. “We call it ‘free chicken,’” the official said. “What would take years and years for the intelligence community to find out [about] how they do things, we’re getting free every day,” allowing the military to “create profiles that will help us for years and years.”

Russia warns Britain of immediate 'proportional response' for 'provoking' Ukraine to attack

Source: The Guardian

Russia’s defence ministry has warned of an immediate “proportional response” if Britain continues its “direct provocation” of Ukraine to strike targets in Russia, Reuters reports.

The ministry cited statements from the UK’s armed forces minister, James Heappey, that said Britain backs Ukrainian troops carrying out strikes in Russian territory. Speaking earlier today, Heappey said it was “not necessarily a problem” if Ukraine uses weapons donated by Britain.

We would like to underline that London’s direct provocation of the Kiev regime into such actions, if such actions are carried out, will immediately lead to our proportional response.

As we have warned, the Russian Armed Forces are in round-the-clock readiness to launch retaliatory strikes with high-precision long-range weapons at decision-making centers in Kyiv.

Russia to suspend gas supplies to Poland

Source: BBC

Russia will stop sending gas to Poland from Wednesday, the Polish state gas company PGNiG has said.

PGNiG said Russian energy firm Gazprom had told it all gas deliveries to the country would be halted from 08:00 CET (07:00 BST).

Gazprom has justified the suspension under new rules announced last month, which mean "unfriendly" countries must pay for gas in roubles.

PGNiG has refused to do this.

WaPo OpEd: David Perdue may soon get the humiliation he deserves

A new Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll has GA Gov. Kemp leading Perdue by 53-to-27 percent in next month’s GOP primary.

A leading Trump sycophant may soon get the humiliation he deserves

When the history of the Donald Trump era is written, a special place in the whole saga should be reserved for David Perdue. The former senator has debased himself on Trump’s behalf perhaps more thoroughly than anyone alive in his quest to defeat Gov. Brian Kemp of Georgia in a Republican primary — yet he may be on track for a humiliating loss.
Sign up for a weekly roundup of thought-provoking ideas and debates

A new poll from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution shows Perdue trailing Kemp by an astonishing 53-to-27 percent among likely voters in next month’s GOP primary. If Kemp clears 50 percent he will win outright without a runoff, which would be a stunning downfall for Perdue, given his endorsement by Trump.

Analysts are already describing this as evidence of Trump’s waning influence among GOP voters. But something bigger is at stake: A decisive Kemp win would show that Republican officials can abide by the integrity of election losses and live to tell the tale — that is, without immediately seeing their careers implode in the next GOP primary.

Perdue has built his entire primary challenge to Kemp around the idea that in some vague sense, Kemp betrayed Republican voters by rebuffing Trump’s pressure to help steal the 2020 election. Trump endorsed Perdue for the explicit purpose of ousting Kemp as payback for that heresy.

UK Defense Secretary - 'Russia should be forced out of the entire country' of Ukraine

UK military aid to Ukraine could rise to £500m, MPs told

The objective of British military support should be to help ensure Ukraine “gets to chose where it wishes to settle for peace”, Wallace said, but he added that in his view Russia should be forced out of the entire country, back to its pre-2014 border.

“I want Putin not only beyond the pre-February boundaries. He invaded Crimea illegally, he invaded Donetsk illegally and he should comply with international law and in the long run leave Ukraine,” Wallace said

Secretary Austin: 'We believe that Ukraine can win'

I believe that sometime this month the military case for assisting Ukraine was settled. The moral case was never in doubt; the political case was made by President Zelensky's remarkable advocacy. IMO, sometime recently the assessment was made that not only could Ukraine win, but, with the right weapons, could inflict the sort of defeat on Russia that would seriously weaken their conventional military capacity for the time being. And THAT is 100% in NATO's interest & the vital interest of the United States.

So now the United States is co-ordinating with NATO partners the way to maximize the delivery of the weapons that Ukraine needs.

Secretary Austin-

In terms of their ability to win – the first step in winning is believing that you can win. And so, they believe that we can win.

We believe that we – they – can win, if they have the right equipment, the right support, and we’re going to do everything we can and continue to do everything we can.

That slip of the tongue 'We believe that we ... can win' illustrates how confident and invested the U.S. is in winning this war.

We want to see Russia weakened to the degree that it can’t do the kinds of things that it has done in invading Ukraine.

It has already lost a lot of military capability. We want to see them not have the capability to very quickly reproduce that capability.

It goes without saying, if Russia 'can't do the kinds of things that it has done in invading Ukraine', it won't be able to so in invading a NATO country either.

Secretary Austin said - We want to see Ukraine remain a sovereign country, a democratic country able to protect its sovereign territory.

And unlike Iraq and Afghanistan, that is realistic

Who knows when the strategic case was made. But if I had to choose just one event ...
