Thanks for all your support!!!

Short version: Ms. Average Old Guy is back home -- to ER Monday about 10:30 AM, back home around 4:00 this afternoon. Severe UTI and pneumonia with no idea where either of the infections came from.

Long version.

Sunday she was her usual (83 yr old) self . . . moving a little slow, giving Trump the finger, talking with our 19-yr-old mildly autistic grandson about his job prospects, pissing and moaning at me for some stupid shit I did.

Monday morning 9:30, in bed, called me, she was choking on vomit, got her airway cleared, stripped off nasty PJ's, headed for bathroom and she had no idea where she was, who she was, who I was . . . . I'm an old EMT, ran rescue for 14 years in rural VA, got vitals, BP 80/40, O2 86%, cyanotic, respirations 36 and rapid, pulse 102, chest sounds crackles, rales, rhonchi . Called 911.

Monday through Tuesday night 4X daily IV antibiotics, still confused, did not recognize me or our son, daughter, DIL, or grandsons. Responded to most questions with blank stare, slept constantly.

Wednesday morning was different story -- "Why am I in hospital??" Was suddenly her usual lovably grouchy self, improved gradually, stil unsteady on her feet, appetite returning, all she wants now is a shower.

ALL THE SUPPORT FROM OUR DU FRIENDS REALLY DID MEAN A LOT -- when any of us finds ourselves in the midst of a crisis, it's not the crisis that beats you down, it's the loneliness. Knowing that folks you never met and never will meet are concerned about you, worried about you, sharing your worry keeps you going. THANK YOU ALL.

Enormous etchings of numbers interpreted as threat to Trump appear on National Mall

Source: Washington Post

Police respond to what appears to be the anti-Trump message “86 47″ etched into the grass near the World War II Memorial.

U.S. Park Police, the D.C. fire department and members of the National Guard were seen responding Thursday to what appeared to be large-scale etchings of the numerals “86 47” on the ‌grounds of the National ‌Mall.

The numerals 8, 6 and 7 were visible, but the 4 wasn’t clearly etched into the grass. It remains unclear how the markings were made. The term “86” is restaurant industry slang that generally refers to the unavailability of an item or a customer’s removal. Trump allies have argued it can also mean to kill someone. Trump is the 47th president of the United States, so the digits have been used to show opposition to Trump and have been seen by some as a threat against him.

Der Fuehrer is shutting down DC

Der Fuehrer announced at last minute he is shutting down basically all of downtown DC tonite thru midnight Sunday for his gladiator brawls.

Previous occupants of White House and all other DC traffic restrictions were announced 2-3 weeks in advance.

Ms Average Old Guy taken to ER yesterday, admitted with pneumonia. I’m depending on family who live on Capitol Hill to help but now they must hurry back home right now and can’t help otherwise they cannot get back home due to street closures.

I’m praying for thunderstorms with fatal lightning strikes on his giant steel monstrosity. Is this un-Christian of me?

Virginians are 'buying the living daylights' out of AR-15s and other soon-to-be illegal guns

Source: Roanoke VA Times

The countdown to Virginia's new assault weapons ban is playing out at gun counters across the commonwealth.

Customers are snapping up AR-15s, gun manufacturers are rushing shipments to Virginia retailers and store owners say firearms are flying off shelves ahead of a July 1 deadline that will dramatically restrict what guns can be legally sold in the state.

Recent FBI data suggests Virginia gun stores are seeing a huge surge in demand. In May, Virginia recorded 75,376 background checks — more than double the total from the same month last year. While background checks are not a direct measure of gun sales, they’re widely used as an industry indicator.

I expect to see a surge in shootings and suicides by gun starting in about six months.

Supreme Court allows Alabama to use GOP-friendly map for midterms, cutting seat held by Black Democrat

Source: CNN

The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed Alabama to use a congressional map that will benefit Republicans in this year’s midterm elections, permitting the state to ditch one of two House districts represented by a Black member of Congress who is also a Democrat.

The court dealt with the case in an unsigned order over the dissent of the three liberal justices.

The No-Longer-Supreme Court has turned their backs on Black Americans.

Not content with destroying the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the Court is actively removing Black members of Congress.

The South has won the Civil War.

Why Peter Thiel Is Decamping to the End of the World

The billionaire’s new roots in Argentina are said to be partly motivated by concerns about the future of the United States and shared beliefs with Argentina’s right-wing leader.

Maybe Thiel will take JD Vance with him??

Tom Friedman's NYT opinion piece . . .

. . . lays bare the truth about Trump's disaster in iran. May be behind a paywall.

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/05/26/opinion/iran-deal-trump-us.html

Only two questions remain regarding the U.S. war with Iran. One, how big a plate of crow will President Trump have to eat to end this conflict with at least some achievements? And two, will he tell us the crow he’s eating is lobster or filet mignon?

Personally, I am fine if Trump has to eat a pile of crow — for instance, the “unconditional surrender” of Iran that he promised will not be coming his way — if it results in Iran relinquishing its roughly 1,000 pounds of near weapons-grade uranium. It would take the immediate threat of an Iranian bomb off the table, and that would be a very good thing.

But please spare me the nonsense that Trump has secured a perfect and delicious deal. Because securing that highly enriched uranium will not only leave the vile, murderous Islamic republic regime in power (and still holding some 10 tons of low-enriched uranium) — but actually strengthen it in troubling ways.

For starters, Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will all be remembered as the team that gave the Islamic republic a second lease on life just when it was more on the ropes than ever with its own people.

Because Trump and his national security team did no apparent scenario planning before the war — relying only on promises by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel that the Iranian regime would fall like a house of cards after a few weeks of heavy bombing — they failed to anticipate what Iran might do with its back against the wall.
