Ukraine: 200 bodies found in basement in Mariupol's ruins

Source: AP

orkers digging through the rubble of an apartment building in Mariupol found 200 bodies in the basement, Ukrainian authorities said Tuesday, as more horrors come to light in the ruined city that has seen some of the worst suffering of the 3-month-old war.

The bodies were decomposing and the stench hung over the neighborhood, said Petro Andryushchenko, an adviser to the mayor. He did not say when they were discovered, but the sheer number of victims makes it one of the deadliest known attacks of the war...

Karine needs to recognize Doocy for what he is

A gotcha performer with an agenda. Not a serious journalist who wants to ask a fair question and get a serious answer.

Jen came to understand this quickly and masterfully kept him off balance, constantly jabbing at his bias and Faux News employers. As soon as Karine comes to the same understanding, he'll get more of what he deserves. And that will happen quickly, imo.

Russian Pranksters pose as Zelenskyy in pranking George Dumya Bush

A pair of well-known Russian pranksters claim to have tricked former U.S. President George W. Bush into speaking to them about the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexei Stolyarov posted a brief video to the Russian video sharing site Rutube on Tuesday that appears to show Bush speaking to the duo about the conflict. Kuznetsov and Stolyarov, who are also known as Vovan and Lexus, have made headlines in the past for pranking high-profile individuals including musician Elton John and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The pair were previously accused of working for the Kremlin, which they denied in remarks to The Guardian in 2016. Bush has been vocal about his opposition to the Russian invasion, calling it the "gravest security crisis on the European continent since World War II" after the first attack in February.

In Tuesday's 43-second video, Bush says: "I wanted Ukraine into NATO." The video, backed with dramatic music, shows clips of Bush throughout his presidency, along with violent images of war. "I thought for a while Russia would be more cooperative and then Putin changed dramatically," Bush says, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin...

Russia launches assault to encircle Ukraine troops in east

Source: Reuters

Russian forces were launching an all-out assault to encircle Ukrainian troops in twin cities straddling a river in eastern Ukraine on Tuesday, a battle which could determine the success or failure of Moscow's main campaign in the east.

Exactly three months after Russian President Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine, authorities in its second-largest city Kharkiv re-opened the underground metro, where thousands of civilians had sheltered for months under relentless bombardment.

The reopening was evidence of Ukraine's biggest military success over the past few weeks: pushing Russian forces largely out of artillery range of Kharkiv, as they did from the capital Kyiv in March.

But the decisive battles of the war's latest phase are still raging further south, where Moscow is attempting to seize the Donbas region of two eastern provinces, Donetsk and Luhansk, and trap Ukrainian forces in a pocket on the main eastern front.

In tough Senate races, Democrats turn from centrists and toward progressive and diverse candidates

"...the Democratic primaries are revealing a shift in strategy for the party as it chooses candidates for tough races in purple and red states.

Rather than go with a moderate white candidate who could appeal to swing voters as the party has done in several races in recent election cycles, voters chose candidates Tuesday more in tune with the party's base in Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Kentucky.

In North Carolina, former North Carolina Supreme Court chief justice Cheri Beasley, a progressive Black woman, easily won after clearing the field early in the election cycle. In Kentucky, Charles Booker, a Black state senator who ran without a challenge after surprising the Democratic establishment when he nearly defeated its chosen candidate two years ago. In Pennsylvania, John Fetterman ran an aggressive, outside the box campaign, beating Rep. Conor Lamb, a cautious and moderate candidate.

All three candidates are more progressive than candidates Democrats usually run in swing states. It's unclear how well they'll do in a statewide general election, but their primary wins are a sign party leaders and Democratic voters no longer see centrism as the only or best path to victory in purple and red states..."

Pramila Jayapal endorses Jessica Cisneros in Texas runoff

Source: Politico

Immigration lawyer Jessica Cisneros has picked up a key endorsement from Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who leads the Congressional Progressive Caucus, in her primary bid against Rep. Henry Cuellar.

“At a time when our reproductive freedoms are under attack by an extremist Supreme Court, we must elect pro-choice candidates that will fight to make sure abortion remains the law of the land. Jessica Cisneros embodies the kind of progressive we need in Congress,” Jayapal (D-Wash.) said in a statement to POLITICO released Thursday.

Cuellar, the only House Democrat who opposes abortion rights, is facing a competitive runoff election next Tuesday in his Texas district against Cisneros, who has sought to make abortion a top issue in the race in the wake of a disclosure earlier this month of a draft Supreme Court decision that revealed the Supreme Court had voted to overturn Roe v. Wade...

Three Toes : "If you don't want to become pregnant right now, choose to not have sex."

U.S. Republican representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has told women that if they do not want to get pregnant they should stay celibate, at an anti-abortion speech she posted on Twitter on Tuesday.

Addressing onlookers, Greene, who is a representative for Georgia's 14th congressional district, said: "Women need to make better choices. If we want to be women who make choices, here's one thing you can choose. If you don't want to become pregnant right now, choose to not have sex.

"You can always abstain."...

DHS preparing for violence following abortion ruling

Source: Axios

The U.S. government is bracing for a potential surge in political violence once the Supreme Court hands down the ruling that's expected to overturn Roe v. Wade, according to a Department of Homeland Security memo obtained by Axios.

The big picture: Law enforcement agencies are investigating social-media threats to burn down or storm the Supreme Court building and murder justices and their clerks, as well as attacks targeting places of worship and abortion clinics.

Details: The unclassified May 13 memo by DHS' intelligence arm says threats that followed the leak of a draft opinion — targeting Supreme Court Justices, lawmakers and other public officials, as well as clergy and health care providers — "are likely to persist and may increase leading up to and following the issuing of the Court’s official ruling."...
