HeartsCanHope's JournalMy son shared this with me, and I found it fascinating!
This video is about how the sewing machine was invented. I found most of the same facts on Wikipedia, so it appears that this guy is on the level. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did--I just love videos about how things work!
Loved this! It made me smile...
Idaho video store closes after 30 years, but one customer's routine lives on:
Hope it brings you a smile, too!
Went to the Manchester Road protest in St. Louis today.
https://fox2now.com/news/missouri/hands-off-rally-held-in-ballwin-protesting-trumps-policies-and-musk/Sorry about the faux news link, but you can see my hands holding a "Hands Off Libraries" sign (#6/12) in this group of pictures. I had layers of clothes, a jacket and a poncho on, so I couldn't lift my arms very high. You can't see my face, I'm covered by the sign! My chance to be in the news, and no closeup! I had a great time despite the very cold, (49 degrees,) and damp weather. We lined up on the sidewalk with our signs, chanted, and waved at cars. I was there from 10:30am till 1:00pm. It rained pretty much the whole time. Pretty miserable weather. Most cars honked and/or waved in support, but there were a couple of coal rollers and a few hecklers. There were a few cars that had their own signs for a drive by protest. We guesstimated about a mile long line of protesters. My son made our signs, double sided so we could each protest two topics, mine were schools and social security. My son made extra signs and we gave them to one of the hosts for people to use. We used a large 2.5 gallon hefty storage bag to protect each sign from the rain, (put them in upside down and that worked a treat!) They can be reused for other protests. He glued the signs on cardboard and that worked very well, too. So for newbies our little group did pretty well! Looking forward to going to our next one!
Update: Just noticed the video, and guess what--my face was still covered! But the Hands Off library sign looked good!
2nd Update: Just found a post on Bluesky that said original protester count was 1468, then an additional 600+ showed up! Proud of my fellow St. Louisans. There were several other locations in St. Louis area, too. Does this old heart good to know that even in deep red Missouri people know this administration needs to go. Gave me a big boost mentally and spiritually today! Thank you to everyone all over the country and the world that are standing up to Trump!
is it okay to show up for the Hands Off protest without signing up?
If I tell other people about this and they show up there is that okay? Or should they sign up?
Has anyone else watched any of these Mystery Vintage Crochet videos by Just Vintage Crochet?
I find myself watching them and I find them so much fun and soothing. I love seeing what the project turns out to be, learning about the stitches used in various time periods in the past, and watching someone who is not afraid to make mistakes! I hope you enjoy this video. I collect vintage patterns, and just love this!
Edit: Just adding I didn't realize I couldn't directly link--sorry! If you're cruising around YouTube, Just Vintage Crochet is the poster!
I found this fascinating. Fairly long, (roughly 32 minutes,) but very satisying for this old heart.
Enjoy this 1894 Singer sewing machine restoration! Personal note, my paternal grandmother had an old Singer hand crank machine and I was allowed to sew on it.
Did anyone see this article?
https://time.com/7271040/trump-portrait-colorado-state-capitol-polis-grantham-boardman-history-factcheck/I was struck by the fact that Trump thought the portrait was "distorted"! He attacks the current Governor of Colorado for the portrait he thinks is unflattering--even though the portrait has been up for 6 years! I personally think it looks just like him. He also tries to say that "many people" have complained. He is ridiculous!
I can't use Crisco shortening because of soy. My doc says no soy because of my meds for hypothyroidism.
I've tried Crisco shortening substitutes without soy, but was not satisfied with the results, especially in cookies. Bought something from Whole Foods that was just gross--weird texture and taste. Tried just using butter, but that isn't ideal for some cookies--too spread out--even after freezing first. Have always used half Crisco, half butter in cookies with great results. Fluffy cookies with a great texture. Has anyone tried using cream cheese and butter in cookies? Someone suggested that to me lately. Wasn't sure if it would effect the taste like the shortening substitutes did. Any other suggestions? Missing good chocolate chip cookies. Finally found chocolate chips without soy lecithin that taste great. So looking to find a cookie batter solution without soybean shortening or shortening substitutes. Any help would be appreciated.
Swede posted a song by Ryskopp,
https://www.democraticunderground and I decided to look up some other songs by Ryskopp. This song Remind Me,
brought to mind a song by the group, Everything But The Girl, called Walking To You
. Spent the afternoon today baking bread and rolls and listening to Ryskopp and Everything But The Girl. Thanks, Swede for a relaxing afternoon respite!

(Also including my favorite Everything But The Girl song Missing You!)
