Missouri Man Charged With Threatening To Shoot President Obama

Source: Huffington Post, many others

March 17 (Reuters) - A Missouri man was charged on Tuesday with threatening several times to shoot U.S. President Barack Obama in meetings with an informant and an undercover officer who posed as a member of a white supremacist group, prosecutors said.

Cameron James Stout, 24, of Stover was arrested on Tuesday and remains in custody after an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Jefferson City, Missouri's capital, prosecutors said.

An informant told a Morgan County sheriff's deputy that Stout had asked him on Thursday for a high-powered rifle and assistance in a plan to shoot the president in the next few weeks, an affidavit attached to the criminal complaint said.

Over the next few days, the informant, a former member of the Aryan Nation, met with Stout and agreed to put him in touch with a high-ranking member of the organization who could help him obtain a rifle and plan the attack, the affidavit said.

If this had already been on LBN yesterday, I apologize, and will self-delete or be fine if moderators lock this.

Another white guy, from the middle of America, has a Facebook page with 500 "friends", and looks like a common laborer who likes to get drunk on weekends, shoot guns, kill dear, hate African Americans and hates people who are poor, hates Obama, of course.

Arkansas Republican who gave girls to rapist ‘regularly’ performed exorcisms on unruly preschoolers

Arkansas Republican who gave girls to rapist ‘regularly’ performed exorcisms on unruly preschoolers

The man, Mr Harris, running this Bible pre-school, is a member of the Arkansas state House of Representatives.

The school gets $900,000 in federal funds. Yes, the article says $900K.

Harris and Growing God’s Kingdom ran afoul of the DHS and the federal government in 2011, when Harris came under fire for taking federal funds for the school, which — as a religious institution — was not eligible for them. Harris claimed that the school’s frequent group prayers and lesson about Jesus were “voluntary” for students, who were under no obligation to participate.

Growing God’s Kingdom receives around $900,000 per year in federal funds, some of which are derived from monies designated for the children of undocumented immigrants. Earlier this year, Harris sponsored a bill in the state House designed to cut off all public services and benefits to anyone who could not provide proof of U.S. citizenship.

“If they got in too much trouble they would pray on the kids, do a circle around them, put their hands on their heads, saying, trying to rebuke demons,” she said to KNWA.

A stupid question about my old AOL account

I have this AOL account I have had for about 20 years. I check-in and look at the non-spam messages about once every month or two.

Evidently, AOL required I change my password from a commonly known word associated with my life to something involving numbers, letters, uppercase, lowercase.

Of course, I forgot that. So I went to the "forgot password" option... and it doesn't work. I put in the AOL name, put the letters in the "what you see" box.. and .... and ... and.... nothing happens when I click on the "NEXT" button.

So is AOL dead? Do I have some blocks on my computer that doesn't allow me to go to the next step?

Basic question: what is blocking me from re-setting my password on AOL?

Republicans are beginning to act as though Barack Obama isn’t even the president

Republicans are beginning to act as though Barack Obama isn’t even the president

snips:

It’s one thing to criticize the administration’s actions, or try to impede them through the legislative process. But to directly communicate with a foreign power in order to undermine ongoing negotiations? That is appalling. And just imagine what those same Republicans would have said if Democratic senators had tried such a thing when George W. Bush was president.

The only direct precedent I can think of for this occurred in 1968, when as a presidential candidate Richard Nixon secretly communicated with the government of South Vietnam in an attempt to scuttle peace negotiations the Johnson administration was engaged in. It worked: those negotiations failed, and the war dragged on for another seven years. Many people are convinced that what Nixon did was an act of treason; at the very least it was a clear violation of the Logan Act, which prohibits American citizens from communicating with foreign governments to conduct their own foreign policy.

One nation under God, mapped

http://www.vox.com/2015/3/6/8155789/religious-group-state-chart

The Public Religion Research Institute regularly polls Americans on their religious beliefs and practices, and they put together some striking data on the most common religious affiliations in each state. Vox's Anand Katakam put together this map showing every state's most prevalent tradition (sadly, DC is left out):

Keep in mind that these are pluralities, not majorities; Catholicism is more common than any other tradition in Maryland but is still followed by only 20 percent of the population.

Perhaps the biggest surprise here is that "unaffiliated" is the biggest group in 13 states, and is tied for the biggest group nationally with Catholics at 22 percent of the population. Some of these are liberal states you might expect to make the list, like Vermont or Oregon, but Montana, Alaska, and Idaho also have unaffiliated pluralities. In only five states — Alabama, Louisiana, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota — is it not in the top three religious traditions. The full PRRI chart, showing the top three for each state, is here:

I thought I would share this here. Feel free to share it in that OTHER place if you wish. I just don't really like posting stuff there.

Did you guys/women all catch this video? Ellen Show: Twins come out to dad?

Just wanted to share. If you have a tear in your eye, so did many around the nation and the world.

As a final thought, I don't think these guys needed to be rewarded by Ellen, just complimented for their honesyt would have been enough. But that's just me. Not every person why comes out to their dad or mon gets a reward, nor should they need to get one. What they all need is everyone's love.

Ben Carson: Religion Is Needed To Test Scientific Theories In Case 'It's Just Propaganda'

Ah, the final authority, a non-practicing medical doctor making more on his speaking tour than actually practicing medicine.

We heathens should be listening to him, amIright?

http://crooksandliars.com/2015/03/ben-carson-religion-needed-test-scientific?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

"I find, a very good measure of correlation between my religious beliefs and my scientific beliefs -- people say, how can you be a scientist, how can you be a surgeon if you don't believe in certain things?" he continued. "Maybe those things aren't scientific. Maybe it's just propaganda."

Rich people becoming Republicans never astounds me, they want to keep all they earn, not a penny to the government that helped them get there.

But when they are supposedly educated in scientific disciplines, it really astounds me that they willingly give up all that sense of the nature of scientific inquiry and return to mythology as their basic method for "validation" of fact. What "validation" method does religion ever offer? Or, maybe, in this guy's case, he's just trying to be a geinius of pulling the wool over everybody's eyes in order to secure a well-paying speaking tour circuit for the next 30 years. He thinks he can get more $$ out of stupid people listening to him speaking for 30 minutes than he can get trying to practice medicine in America today, and he's probably right; lots of stupid people will pay to hear him speak.

Is he an actual practicing medical doctor or just a super crafty con artist who was smart enough to get through medical school and practice medicine for a few years before he found a higher-paying way out?

As someone else pointed out: "Ben Carson is a scam and an opportunist. He spoon-feeds his fans what they want to hear, like any other entertainer." I think Ben just found a better-paying job than being an actual pediatric surgeon, by being a Republican bullshit slinger.

Knowing this is offensive to the 12-13 very devoutly religious people who lurk and browse this thread, and are offended by certain words when applied to people who are believers: the two words "delusional" and "arrogant" both apply to this Carson guy. He is both. He uses religion to win converts, and has the arrogance high enough to deny the value of logical and scientific inquiry, all to make more money for himself, a kind of black Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson, but a bit younger and he was gifted with a much better educational opportunity which he threw away in order to sling this bullshit for greater profit.

Dana Loesch leads religion pity party at CPAC: ‘It’s time to make Christians a protected class’

Columnist Cal Thomas, radio host Dana Loesch, and Family Research Council president Tony Perkins took part in a CPAC panel on religious freedom Saturday, and they pronounced that times were dire for followers of Jesus Christ.

“I feel like it’s time to make Christians a protected class,” Dana Loesch said, as the discussion reached a fevered pitch of self-pity.

Thomas chimed in that “our commander in chief” — who is Jesus, not President Obama — instructed his followers that they would experience persecution.

Then Thomas and Loesch admitted that it just wouldn’t be worth being a Christian if you couldn’t feel persecuted.

“And since we have the victim competition in the United States,” Loesch added, “I think we win.”

Here, watch them climb up on those crosses for yourself…

And some of our friends on DU think there's absolutely nothing to worry about nor anyreason to be such nasty nasty atheists, challenging religious thinking. Some seem to think religions in the USA are becoming more "liberal".

Marco Rubio Tries To Lecture Obama On ISIS, Commits Epic Error

Potential 2016 presidential candidate Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) inexplicably told a conservative audience on Friday that President Barack Obama lacked a military strategy to confront ISIS because he feared upsetting Iran, a country that has actually committed itself to defeating the terrorist group.
Speaking before the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Maryland, Rubio told radio and TV host Sean Hannity that “if we wanted to defeat them militarily, we could do it. [Obama] doesn’t want to upset Iran.”
Referring to the United States’ ongoing negotiations with Iran to contain that country’s nuclear program, Rubio continued, “In [Obama’s] mind, this deal with Iran is going to be the Obamacare of the second term, and he doesn’t want them sending military to the region because they think the region belongs to them.”
There’s just one problem: Iran has been fighting ISIS just like the United States and has publicly urged America to take a larger role in the operation. Obama has even sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei suggesting anti-ISIS cooperation
.

Rubio is such an idiot. Actually all of the CPAC clowns are complete idiots about foreign policy.

South Carolina college denounces homosexuality after two volleyball players come out as gay

Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina, describes itself as a “liberal arts” institution, but as far as that freedom applies to the hearts and minds of its students, it seems limited. In response to two male athletes on its volleyball team coming out in an article published on OutSports.com last year, the college, which is aligned with the Associate Reformed Presbyterian tradition, released a strongly worded denouncement of homosexuality on campus that many read to be a behavioral ban. The document, titled “Statement on Human Sexuality” was submitted by the Student Services and Athletic Committee and adopted by the board of trustees last Friday. It reads:

“We believe the Bible teaches that monogamous marriage between a man and a woman is God’s intended design for humanity and that sexual intimacy has its proper place only within the context of marriage.

“Sexual relations outside of marriage or between persons of the same sex are spoken of in scripture as sin and contrary to the will of the Creator (Rom. 1:26-27; 1 Cor. 6 -10; 1 Tim. 1 -11).

“Therefore, the Erskine community is advised to practice humility and prayerfulness when engaging in any conversations or other actions related to these topics. Erskine’s conduct policies and procedures seek to uphold biblical standards, promote repentance and grace, and point people to Jesus Christ.

So depressing to see a college endorse bigotry in the name of religion.
