My Local Paper Now Says Sasse is Playing Cautious

He’s a turd who will turn toward whatever hot stinking political wind he thinks is advantageous. But as a key vote on Judiciary he’d likely only get real wobbly if others are strongly indicating they are voting no.

I’m somewhat heartened though as I’ve called his office twice recently in relation to Kavanaugh and to think that he might surprise me I feel that much more excited. Will def put in another call first thing Friday if they are trying to go forward.

To those that listen to audiobooks

Is there a preferred app you use, or do you get physical copies on cd at your local library? I was considering checking out audiobooks now that I’m such a podcast nerd I’m more used to listening to more than music!

Thanks in advance.

Oh Bullshit!

They have Trey Gowdy and Tim Scott on MSNBC right now talking about compromise; they are both Republicans bums who want Republican control everywhere.

You want me to see them as a great hope for humanity why exactly? Because Tim Scott is a black conservative? Get outta here with that nonsense. As if the conversation should just be about levels of Republican crazy.

The idea that they are so different is just a racist framing in itself. The only thing significantly ‘different’ about them is their skin color. They have similarly garbage character and therein lies their ‘unified’ friendship.

Just read via Seth Abramson

That Trump’s ‘getting tough’ on Russia and kicking out 60 diplomats is predictably total bullshit. Apparently it only requires an exchange of personnel. 60 are leaving , and being replaced by 60 new ‘diplomats’ whereas the other countries that made similar moves all shrunk the size of the missions - meaning there is no exchange.

Anime Suggestion Thread !

So I may not be a typical anime fan. I am
30 and don’t know a lot yet ; I watched a little on toonami and adult swim when I was younger but never gravitated to any of the bigger name stuff like DBZ , Naruto or Bleach. I watched a little Cowboy Bebop , Lupin The Third , Samarai Champloo , and a tiny bit of Gundam but since I never really had friends who were into it I just let it go.

Then a few months ago I started seeing a lot of anime pop up on Netflix. A year or two ago they had a show called Monster on Netflix which was fucking awesome , but they only had some of its episodes and then took them off. I ended up watching Death Note ( which I found mostly good if the writing did get somewhat bungled ) and Ajin season 1 ( haven’t done the second one yet )

But this just kinda whet my appetite and so I got curious and searching around I found the apps Crunchyroll and Funimation. So now my eyes were opened to the vast selection of shows of all kinds.

So far I have only watched a few things to completion ( mostly dubbed things on funimation because they are easy to watch in bed.

I have finished and recommend

Kino’s Journey - a show about Kino, a girl who travels from country to country ( on a talking motorcycle called Hermès) where each society is set up to have their own strange philosophical rules.

91 Days - a revenge story that plays out a bit like The Godfather ; the main character sees his family slaughtered while he hides in a closet. Years later he receives a letter saying telling him about the crime family to blame. He sets out to infiltrate and assasinate them.

Mob Psycho 100 - surprisingly this is not about the mob at all. It’s about a boy named mob who has psychic powers and he is hired by a teacher whose really just a liar , to help him exercise ghosts. Its a goofy comedy action series but still really fun. I read they are doing a second season.

Psycho Pass (2 Seasons) - a dystopian sci-fi that recalls something like a cross between Judge Dredd and Minority Report. Where cops can point a gun at any citizen and read their probability of committing crime. If it’s too high they can be executed.. this also has some of my favorite opening themes I’ve come across

stuff I’m watching now but haven’t finished

Sweetness & Lightning ( on Crunchyroll ) - a really cute show about a single dad little girl. The mother has died and the dad is a teacher who can’t cook. The little girl is interested in food and they meet one of the dad’s students in the park. Her family owns a traditional Japanese restaurant and they become friends. Every episode is centered around a different dish they learn to make.

March Comes In Like A Lion ( on Crunchyroll) - a quiet but interesting story about a 17 professional Shogi player. I’ve just started this one but it’s really beautifully animated.

Little Witch Academia ( Netflix ) - Think Harry Potter with an all girl cast. It’s one I threw on for my 5 year old nephew and was immediately charmed by. I gather it was first done as a movie and later expanded

Shows from the Winter 2018 season (currently airing via simulcast)

A Place Further Than The Universe (Crunchyroll) - Easily my favorite thing currently going. It’s about a group of girls that go on an expedition to Antarctica. If you only read the synopsis it might not seem like much , but it’s a very touching story about friendship and loss. It’s beatifully animated and uses music super well too.

Junji Ito Collection ( Crunchyroll & Funimation ) - a series that uses the stories of horror author Junji Ito. There are two stories in every episode and they are often strange and disturbing. Horror anime doesn’t seem to be that big of a genre but this show is interesting with a unique style

Pop Team Epic ( Crunchyroll & Funimation) - A silly comedy skit show that is pretty much the anime answer to Robot Chicken. The animation itself is kind’ve a joke too and you have to know it does have adult moments but will make kids laugh if they see it

On CNN just now..

Woman who repeatedly shared Russian troll propaganda through social media got ROASTED and by a reporter in front of her house as she said over and over there were no Russians and that she met with people in person. Then every time the reporter brings it back to her being duped she flips out and screams fake news and begins ranting about Hillary.

This is what severe brainwashing by Fox / Russia / Trump looks like live and in your face. I honestly laughed in the moment seeing it - but it is frightening to witness people so far gone.

This is what we are dealing with trying to be real with these people who have been duped. To try and convince them they got played is a threat to their whole world... we must fight for the minds of the young and undecided because the Trumpers are a lost cause

What Are You Drinking {2 -14-18}

I just had three craft brews in a row and I didn’t like a single one. I think this is meta life for bitter valentines because I don’t know if all three were bad or if the first bad beer just ruined my mouth for the night

First was : Brickway’s Oatmeal Pale Ale. Which some had marketed like a NE IPA ( big hazy , and fruit juicy ) but that was not so - other than the opaque look this was not at all juicy and actually made me think of spearmint gum

Second was Clown Shoes Space Cake (DIPA) that was the best of the three but still bummed me out for being underwhelming. It’s mosaic hops which here started with some decent mango flavor but also had some of that body odor thing you sometimes smell in hops. Was more watery than most high ABV beers (9%)

Finally was Larry’s Latest Sour Ale from Bells. This is a brewery that I normally love but this was decidedly not a hit. It had a vinegar / sweaty sock thing that I couldn’t shake. Again I thought maybe the previous beer had maybe caused this damage to my tastebuds.. or it could be that whatever kettle souring does is not for me ( this beer says it’s kettle soured) and I know it’s a somewhat newer method that speeds up souring but this is the first beer I’ve come across that advertises its kettle soured. Could be I don’t have the frame of reference for it yet

Anyone Know How Many Usually Work in WH?

They are saying now that maybe 40 staffers are working without clearance. I see that Trump is running a severely empty administration by design , and because they can’t find people who want the jobs. So with both of these things being true what’s the percentage of overall WH staff running around without clearance? Is it 1 in 5, 1 in 4 or even as many as half the total workforce?
