Rachel M at 6 pm's JournalThe national debut of "Who's Sorry Now?" created a magical moment for Connie Francis
Francis has said that she recorded it at the insistence of her father, who was convinced it stood a chance of becoming a hit because it was a song adults already knew and that teenagers would dance to if it had a contemporary arrangement.
Francis did not like the song and argued about it with her father heatedly, delaying the recording of the two other songs during the session so much that she thought no time was left on the continuously running recording tape. Her father insisted, though, and when the recording "Who's Sorry Now?" was finished, only a few seconds remained on the tape.
The single seemed to go unnoticed like all previous releases, just as Francis had predicted, but on January 1, 1958, it debuted on Dick Clark's American Bandstand. Francis watched the show and wrote in her diary:

MAGA Dad's Father's Day gift, 2025
Middle-aged coworker, never votes, doesn't follow politics, doesn't talk politics, and definitely not at work.
I hadn't seen her since last week. Today she told me she could tell her dad didn't like his Father's Day gift. She said it was so obvious that her boyfriend noticed it independently of her.
It was a Trump mug. "And he likes Trump. He's voted for him every time."
MAGA dad didn't want the Trump mug. Daughter doesn't know why. I'm not going to tell her.
I had a disturbing encounter with a MAGA customer last night
First, a couple of details before I tell you what he said:
He was calm and friendly the whole time, with nothing sinister or threatening about his tone or body language. That's what made it all so much more disturbing. He seemed to think what he said was completely reasonable.
Also, I live in a dark blue state where this kind of encounter is already rare.
Also, while it's difficult to get fired where I work, the one thing you can never do is show gross disrespect to a customer. So other than telling him who I voted for, and that I'm a never-Trumper, I stayed calm and let him spout this insanity. I knew that if I took him on, it would escalate quickly (I know the limits of my own temper) and that I could easily find myself out of a job.
The conversation began with him asking how I was handling the election, and I told him I was stressed to my limit and couldn't wait untll it was over.
He replied, "Well, it will be over soon, one or the other side will win, and then everyone will be able to calm down."
And then:
"But unless Trump wins in a landslide, we'll know the Democrats rigged the election. Anything other than a Trump landslide, and there's going to be hell to pay. And the Republicans are not going to just passively sit by and let it happen, like they did in 2020. This time, they'll be out for revenge. The Democrats better not steal it again."
He said all that in such a reasonable tone, it was as if he was describing how water always runs downhill or how time always moves forward.
This was an hour before the end of my last shift before the election. A month ago I scheduled Monday the 4th through Thursday the 7th off for myself, just to try to avoid some of the election craziness.
I calmly explained that I'm voting for Kamala, I'm a never-Trumper, and I would vote for anyone who ran against Trump. I knew that if I went further than that, I would end up yelling at him, calling him a fucking idiot, and asking him whether he was evil or stupid.
So I made it though my shift without getting fired, and now I have four days off. But I had trouble sleeping last night, thinking about this disturbing conversation.
Almost asleep and then jolted awake by this question:
What is to stop the left from raising enough money to simply PAY the right-wing Supreme Court justices to reinstate Roe vs. Wade?
I was jolted awake because of what a stupid idea it seemed to be. And now I can't think of why it wouldn't work.
My alarm is set for 6 am Monday-Friday to watch Truth Social's stock fall
I live on the West Coast so I have to get up at 6 am to watch the financial carnage as it happens.
Here are the closing figures for Truth Social since it went public. I have not been disappointed:
TH 3/28 $61.96
FR 3/29 holiday
MO 4/1 $48.66
TU 4/2 $51.60
WE 4/3 $48.81
TH 4/4 $46.15
FR 4/5 $40.59
MO 4/8 $37.17
TU 4/9 $37.47
WE 4/10 $34.26
TH 4/11 $32.41
Because it lost $54 million last year and has no strategy for turning that around, I plan to watch it go to zero.

I've been watching it drop every few minutes. It's now down more than 26%

At this rate it will take 25+ years for Trump's GoFundMe account to pay his NY judgment
Trump owes $454,156,783
His GoFundMe account has been raising an average of $160,500 a day
But interest is accruing at the rate of over $111,000 a day
$160,500 - $111,000 = $49,500
So in practical terms the account is actually raising about $49,500 a day
At this rate it will take 9,175 days to pay off the principle
That's over 25 years
He'll be 102 years old by then
ChatGPT: "Write a 16-line, 4-verse poem about Donald Trump getting indicted"
ChatGPT stip this out in literally 10 seconds.I said, "Write a 16-line, 4-verse poem about Donald Trump getting indicted" and ChatGPT replied with:
There came a news that shook the nation's life.
Donald Trump, the former president, was indicted,
For crimes he may have committed, unrequited.
The charges were many, the evidence strong,
The wheels of justice had been churning all along.
His supporters rallied, calling it a witch hunt,
But the truth, they say, is hard to confront.
The world watched as the trial began,
The fate of a man, once so grand.
But justice is blind, and it must prevail,
Even if the outcome makes some wail.
In the end, the verdict was clear,
Donald Trump was guilty, his future unclear.
The lesson learned, no one is above the law,
No matter how powerful, they must answer for all.

The first paragraph of "My Christmas Gift to Myself: Pride"
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/25/opinion/christmas-gay-pride.htmlThis is by Charles Blow, from today's issue of the New York Times. The whole piece is good, but I especially love this first paragraph...
EDITED TO ADD: 4dog was kind enough (and competent enough, unlike myself) to post the non-paywall link in the comments below so you can read the whole thing.
Freeper reactions to TFG's superhero cards...
This is virtually every response. I didn't cherry-pick these. (I found just a couple of positive responses.)I think my favorite is, "It's like the political version of suicide by cop."
(No link. It's Free Republic)
You know what. I'm done. Walking away.
Guess I wasn't far off.
Come on, this must be a (bad) joke. Please tell me this is not real news.
(And very, very sad.)
So either this is the Babylon Bee or Im done with Trump. Thank you for your service, but Im moving on.
Clearly, I was wrong.
Im sorry, but this trading card thing at $99 is a bit ridiculous. There must be something substantive he's preparing.
His ego is bigger than Obama's.
what a loser.
The guy's a moron.
Then I thought....
When did Trump support anyone other than himself?
So...what's the goal of this? To cause even more people to eyeroll him? How does this possiy benefit his 2024 campaign?
That made me laugh. This is the kind of thing his enemies would do as a joke to mock him for being narcissistic. And he just handed it to them.
It's like the political version of suicide by cop.
Its as if he is announcing to the world that he thinks we are suckers. Its as if he was sitting around saying, "I could get them to buy anything."
This is beyond sad.
I really believe the 'campaign' is just about donations and legal matterd timing.
DeSantis is the way to go.
His sad obsession with 2020 has devolved into hocking digital trading cards. He has no fire in his belly to be president again. He will not be the GOP nominee. I am cautiously optimistic it wont be DeSantis either. No coronations. Trump had his time to ensure he was setup for a successful rematch in 2024 and at nearly every critical turn went down the wrong road. Its disheartening but he couldnt pull it together. His time is up.
The best strategy from any Republican asked about Trump is to pivot to the issues.
The fact that anyone thinks this is some form of infinite D chess and applauds this behavior are complete cultists.
I donated way above the maximum to both runs, and now he has basically gone off the deep end. The absolute clown show that was the attempt at stopping the steal seemed comic book like at the time. Now I get it.
Thankfully we will now have a real primary season to find and actual candidate.
Thank you for your service Mr President. Enjoy your retirement, please.
Now let's see how many people stick with him.
Today is going to be a good day.
Ron DeSantis '24.
My theory: Trump announced his candidacy to keep the Democrat-political prosecutors at bay until a Republican can take over. Smart move. But stuff like this says to me that he's not serious about running in 2024.
Im legitimately having a problem digesting this as reality.
In short, they kept the stupid at bay.
The moment Trump moved into the Oval Office, Jared and Ivanka moved in to the West Wing, fired all the MAGA people, and kept the crazies away from Trump.
Trump might not have known who Nick Fuentes was but Jared and Ivanka sure as hell did and there would've been no dinner with Kanye West at Mar-A-Lago if they were still advising him.
And there most certainly would not have been today's "MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT!" as Trump put it.
Hunter uses that very same word in pushing his bling.
No 'art' of the deal for a second term, for me.
He thinks you're a gullible mark who will give him money for nothing just because he spouts some ideas you want to hear.
Wonders whether his mental transmission is
now slipping...
...could be a total loss...
That's not all. It's just where I stopped copying. The outrage, the mocking and the remorse go on and on and on...
