More idiocy, let's just kill the goose that is trying to lay golden eggs...

"A coalition of nearly 60 nonprofit leaders is proposing increasing pot taxes to fully fund child care for low-income youth as well as substance abuse programs, according to a letter sent last month to Gov. Gavin Newsom, as well as the state Senate president pro tem and the state speaker of the Assembly. Lynn Silver, a program director at the Public Health Institute and a signatory on February’s letter, said in an email to SFGATE that pot taxes are not too high and increasing tax rates would benefit the state by increasing investing in necessary programs.

The letter is now setting up a fight with the cannabis industry and some economic experts, who say raising tax rates will have the opposite effect: further reducing overall cannabis tax revenue by making legal cannabis more expensive and driving customers to the illicit market, where they don’t pay any taxes at all."

Idiots.

Locals Say Eagle Pass Is Being Invaded by Christian Nationalists -- Not Migrants

Submitted for your consideration. I think this is an excellent read and a useful perspective.

"Eagle Pass, Texas—Residents of the border town at the center of an ongoing feud between Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and the Biden administration made it clear over the weekend that the only people they see as “invaders” in their community are the 14 Republican governors and a convoy of Christian nationalists calling themselves “God’s Army.”

“There has been an invasion, but I’m not talking about the immigrants. The invasion is from Governor Abbott and his political rhetoric,” said Juanita Martinez, an Eagle Pass resident and chair of the Maverick County Democratic Party, on Friday outside the Maverick County Courthouse."

Why are our legislators and the governor doing *nothing* about the PG&E increases?

The members of the P.U.C. need to be recalled, any and all rate increases clawed back, and PG&E told to get their wildfire upgrades done in a timeframe of months.

To be honest, I think any of our politicians *not* outraged and taking action on this need to be recalled or primaried.

Our ostensibly Democratic leaders are letting a monopoly have its way with us with ZERO oversite or accountability. We have some of the highest rates in the nation, natural gas and non-electric tools and appliances are being phased out leaving us ever more at the mercy of a nasty, but apparently well connected monopoly.

Action now against PG&E.

Sacramento Sheriff is sharing license plate reader data with anti-abortion states, records show

[snip]

In 2015, Democratic Elk Grove Assemblyman Jim Cooper voted for Senate Bill 34, which restricted law enforcement from sharing automated license plate reader (ALPR) data with out-of-state authorities. Now-Sacramento County Sheriff Cooper appears to be doing just that.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) a digital rights group, has sent Cooper a letter requesting that the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office cease sharing ALPR data with out-of-state agencies that could use it to prosecute someone for seeking an abortion. According to documents that the Sheriff’s Office provided EFF through a public records request, it has shared license plate reader data with law enforcement agencies in states that have passed laws banning abortion, including Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas.

Murderer of 7 praised as 'Hero' in U.S. funded Palestinian Girl's school

What the hell?

"A USAID-funded Palestinian high school for girls in Qalqilya in the West Bank teaches its students that terrorist murderers are “heroes” of Palestinian society.

The Al-Omariya High School for Girls posted on Facebook about a school event, which eulogized and glorified as a “hero” terrorist murderer Khairy Alqam. Alqam shot and murdered six Israelis and one Ukrainian national outside a synagogue in northern Jerusalem in January this year."

I sure hope there is some context to this.

Am I wrong to find this kind of ironic?

I might be on the side of RKBA supporter (AKA 'gun humper').. but this is taking one's love of firearms too far:

Brazilian lawyer tragically died after his gun was discharged by an MRI machine’s magnetic field at the hospital.

The freak accident occurred on January 16 while the gun-loving lawyer, named Leandro Mathias de Novaes, was taking his mother to get scanned at the Laboratorio Cura in São Paulo, Jam Press reported. Unbeknownst to hospital staff, the attorney had a registered firearm in his possession.

Staff had reportedly asked the pair to remove all metal objects before entering the MRI room, as is protocol at hospitals due to the device’s powerful magnetic field. However, Novaes decided to go in sans announcing his concealed weapon.

And another attempt at suppressing RKBA gets slapped down

Are you listening Gavin?

You can't make it harder to own and carry a gun than you make it to vote, protest, or write a letter to the editor. Rights are rights, and the fact that some assholes don't like other people exercising their rights means exactly zero. In fact, I take a lot of glee at watching people who would restrict my rights - be that who I marry, what I carry, what I write, or if I protest - being made miserable.

And the emergency appeal is GOING to get slapped down, as it should. The only thing any attempts to restrict *any* rights should result in are horrific legal bills for those trying to impinge upon them. The fact someone might be bothered by me carrying a firearm means exactly as little to me as the fact they may be bothered that I have a husband of the same sex as myself, in other words LESS than zero, a feature not a bug.

'It's the only thing we've got': Central California cops aim to turn town's only library into police

Because screw libraries when the cops need to spend money.

https://www.sfgate.com/centralcoast/article/Police-department-wants-McFarland-library-17159602.php?IPID=SFGate-HP-CP-Spotlight

"It’s a quiet Friday afternoon in McFarland, California. Inside the Clara M. Jackson Library in the center of town, there’s a steady but calm hum of activity. Yet the overall mood is weighty, and the situation, beyond the smiles on its youngest patrons’ faces, seems dire.

The library, the town’s only one, may soon no longer be in this building. Why? Because McFarland’s police are attempting to take it over as their new headquarters. ...."
