If he lives that long, Trump could still be tried when he leaves office; Charges could be refiled

* Election subversion in Georgia (state charge)
* Stolen documents case in Florida (federal charge)
* January 6 (federal charge)

It's impossible to guess what anything will be like four years from now, but I'm going to hold out hope that all these charges will, in fact, be refiled once the "you can't prosecute a president" thing is moot. Although I would settle for Trump suffering a massive stroke at any moment and then living another 20 years. (See Kennedy, Joseph P., who lived eight years after his massive stroke.)

No Democrat, no decent human being should attend the fake inauguration

After reviewing Jack Smith's report, the frustration and disgust that has been boiling inside me since the election has become too much. I'm reminded of the 1948 fact-based novel, Cry, the Beloved Country. In that book South African Alan Paton attacks his country's apartheid government and predicts its eventual downfall. Unfortunately, Paton died in 1988, six years before Nelson Mandela returned from prison and was elected President of South Africa.

I lived in Johannesburg for a year under the apartheid regime. I saw the water fountains, the parks and beaches, the phone booths, the schools marked "Whites Only" or "Nonwhites Only." It was like stepping back in time and living in places like Mississippi in the 1950s. So I've seen the neo-Nazis up close and personal. I lived and worked with them, and they're just like the MAGAts of today. And that's sickening.

The title of Paton's book captures my feelings well. The country that we have loved has been hijacked by a criminal cult, and half of the American people have approved the takeover by electing an evil dictator to return to the White House.

Trump is using the presidency to escape spending the rest of his miserable life in prison while Mandela did it the the other way around. He led a courageous moral fight against the neo-Nazi apartheid regimes of South Africa and was sent to prison for it. But, eventually, he returned to become president of the evil country that had oppressed him and the rest of the nonwhite majority.

And now here we are, with America's first Black president about to sit on the same platform with the MAGA cult leader and racist as he once again swears an oath he has mocked over and over and over again. I will never forgive Barack or any other Democrat who attends this farce scheduled for Martin Luther King Day. Yes, cry the beloved country, cry the beloved country indeed.

Why did Carter's family allow Trump to desecrate Jimmy's funeral? And how can Obama sit next to him and laugh?

I don't get it. It's probably just me, but I think it's deplorable that the criminal, traitorous dictator was allowed to attend the funeral. And I can't imagine being Barack Obama and sitting next to the neo-Nazi madman and laughing it up. What the hell is going on?

It sickens me to see any decent human being having anything to do with the orange pile of scum who's about to be given the keys to the country again. Playing nice with dictators and oligarachs has never worked, and this one is among the worst. That picture of Neville Chamberlain shaking hands with Hitler has aged well . . .

Decent people everywhere should shun the sexual deviant and felon at every turn. It will be another national disgrace, IMHO, if any Democrat shows up on Jan. 20 at the same spot where, about four years ago, he tried to overthrow the US government. How any Democrat, how any decent person could watch that farce and pretend it's all OK is way, way, way beyond me. I couldn't do it. I wouldn't do it. And shame on any Democrat who does.

The USA has about 60 days to save itself. Do we have the guts to do what is necessary?

And by that I mean if Trump is allowed to take office, the USA and the free world are finished. Russia will eventually take Ukraine and, from there, with the approval of Trump, will move on to Western Europe. Trump said a few months ago that "Putin should do whatever the hell he wants." And with the aid of Trump's administration, he will.

With Trump and MAGA controlling the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, there would be NOTHING to stop America's Hitler from doing everything and anything he wants. He will appoint even more MAGA (Supreme) Court justices. He will further fill the ranks of judgeships all over the country with MAGA loyalists. There will be no place to turn. And anyone who thinks the country will turn on him in 2028 is a naive fool. There is no reason to believe there will ever be a free and fair election in this country again if Trump is allowed to take office. As you know, he already said if you vote for him now, you won't have to bother voting ever again because they'll have things fixed.

Would Germany and the world have been better off if the original Hitler had been stopped in 1933 instead of in 1945 after a second world war?

Make no mistake. Project 2025 and more will destroy any semblance of a US democracy. Trump will jail anyone he wants for any reason, and there will be no one to stop him. He'a already said Liz Cheney and General Milley should be put before a firing squad. Do you really think those are just words?

Not since the first Civil War has the United States faced a threat of such magnitude. And unless Biden uses his authority as president to stop Trump before he gets started, the United States will fall onto the trash heap of history.

MAGA said there would be war if Trump lost. Well, unless there is war now, unless Biden uses every tool at his disposal--yes, including as commander in chief--then all will be lost and the only way to get our country back will still be war . . . only then it will be incrementally more difficult because Trump and MAGA will hold all the cards.

So what'll it be? Are we gonna fight--I mean really fight--to save our country, or are we going to hand it over to domestic terrorists? Is Biden going to be Churchill or Chamberlain? That's where we are, like it or not.

Biden, Harris, Walz, Obama, Clinton and the DNC should be organizing a massive protest for Jan. 20

Instead of planning to attend the MAGA coronation. Making this dictator look normal in any way is the wrong approach. Protest instead. And then protest some more. And not just in DC, but all over the country. Let's show the MAGAts what they're really up against, and let's show the world this country ain't all MAGA. Every state democratic leadership should be planning protest events the entire month of January leading up to Jan. 20 and the culminating moment. IMHO, of course.

New presidential oath for Trump

Article II, Section 1, Clause 8, US Constitution:

Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:

"I, (first name, middle name, last name) do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

That's the one Chief Justice John Roberts couldn't deliever accurately when swearing in Barack Obama, and it's the one that Donald Trump trampled in his first go-around. So we need a new one to fit the circumstances. Maybe something like this:

"I, Dicatator Donald, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute my political enemies under my unlimited powers as President of the MAGA States of America, and will to the best of my ability, dismantle, ignore and suspend the Constitution of the United States."

Just a thought.

So MAGAts can't afford eggs, but they can afford smokes and beer?

Haven't heard of any red state liquor stores or convenience stores going out of business because their MAGAT customers can't afford their cigarettes or alcohol. Of course, ya gotta have those necessities. But eggs . . . OMG!

BTW: Of the thousands of lies and depraved acts of the orange scum, I keep thinking of the debate and his insistence that "immigrants are eating the pets, they're eating the dogs and the cats." And how did he "know" this? Because "I saw someone say it on TV." This, my friends, is your next president of what used to be the United States of America.

The DNC blew it. Here's how and why.

First, we love Joe, and his 2020 win was fabulous. But he should have announced a year or two ago that he would not seek a second term.

Second, the DNC should have had the data that the country isn't ready for a woman as president. India, Pakistan, New Zealand, and most others have elected female presidents decades ago, but the US is clearly not there yet.

Third, don't nominate a woman from California, a state we have in the bag, who can be tied to the low popularity ratings of Joe Biden--unfair but true--and to the Biden administration and the border, inflation, etc.

Fourth, nominate people who have no direct ties to DC or the Biden administration. (See above.)

Fifth, choose a ticket of governors from battleground states: Josh Shapiro (PA), Gretchen Whitmer (MI), Tim Walz (MN). And, of course, Whitmer could not lead the ticket because, well, she's a woman. So we might have had a Shapiro-Walz ticket, a Walz-Shapiro ticket, a Shapiro-Whitmer ticket, or a Walz-Whitmer ticket. It appears we could have won with any of those tickets, although I might have gone Shapiro-Whitmer with Shapiro-Walz a close second.

I've never been especially politcally active, but I have paid attention. And I am shocked that the outspoken and vastly experienced James Carville and the leaders of the DNC, the Obamas and so on, weren't able to have plans in place to make sure the Democrats won the most vital election since at least the Civil War. It should have been possible to run a broomstick and a skateboard and beat the worst ticket in the history of American presidential politics, but that's disregarding the reality of the MAGA cult. We knew the opponent. We knew Trump was right when he said he could do literally anything and he'd still get nearly half the country to vote for him. So when you know that, you have to develop the strategy to counter it. Nominating a black woman who was part of the unpopular incumbent administration and from California made no sense in that context, despite the fact Kamala--on her own--was a fabulous candidate and would have made a wonderful president.

Anyway, instead of getting it right and saving our democracy, we now have the greatest fight on our hands since the Civil War, with no end in sight. At least, that's how I see it.
