Did anyone watch the CNN Special with the police interviews a couple of nights ago?

One of the cops commented that he felt like he could go no further. He had to sit down, out of exhaustion. They were being over-whelmed by the mob.

But then, he saw help coming. The Virginia Police had arrived to give them assistance and he was encouraged to continue the battle against the mob of insurrectionists.

As I recall, from watching many videos from that day, it was Nancy Pelosi that called the Governor of Virginia and asked for assistance from their National Guard and State Police units.

According to that one officer, that made all the difference in the world.

The immigrant problem at our southern border is part of an organized national security threat?

With the radical takeover of our Congress by Republican insurrectionists, and with the attack upon Brazil's government institutions, the immigration problem at our border looks to be more of a planned operation than a normal, spontaneous immigration pattern.

The attack on Brazil's institutions looked very similar to the January 6th attack on our own Capitol. Their former president claimed fraud and incited his supporters to do what the insurrectionists did in this country. Coincidentally, Bolsonaro, their former president, is now living in southern Florida, very close to his comrade, Donald Trump.

The radical Republican takeover of our Congress does not bode well for the future of our country. In my opinion, the immigration problem at our border has been created by outside actors in order to help de-stabilize our government and our democracy. It is a present national security threat.

In my opinion, it began with the effort to tear down our intelligence agencies and to put into place officials that could be controlled and manipulated by the power at the top. The firing of Comey and McCabe at the FBI was the beginning.

Now, we have a Congress that is sworn to investigate the FBI and our Intelligence agencies and to punish them for their past investigations. Their threats to withhold funds from Intelligence and our Defense Department will weaken our country even further.

In my opinion, the immigrants at our border are part of a plan to de-stabilize our military and our security apparatus and to create chaos within our government. In my opinion, it is a severe national security matter.

In the "other" reality...

There was no "insurrection". It was only a "rally" that got out of hand.

Those arrested are "victims". They should not be in jail.

Donald Trump won the election in 2020 by a landslide. Joe Biden did not even come close to 80 million votes.

The "fake news" cannot be believed. Trump is a messenger from God and only he can be believed. He tells it "like it is".

The FBI was wrong to get a search warrant for the home of the former president. It doesn't matter if they found stolen documents.

Joe Biden is not the legitimate president. The election in 2020 was a fraud. It was stolen from Donald Trump and his supporters.

How does one respond to such comments? Is it that you can no longer believe what you see with your own eyes?

What can you do when the "other" reality is given more and more oxygen every day?

The truth becomes the "lie" and the lie becomes the "truth".

It becomes old and tiresome.

When will it ever change?

Trump will be quick to take credit for McCarthy's victory and Repubs will be quick to give it to him

It is difficult to remain positive in these circumstances.

The continuous and persistent lies seem to be able to overwhelm and defeat the truth.

It is a continuation of the coup that was put into action 2 years ago yesterday.

There are no "moderate" Republicans. They are all supporters of the Big Lie that Joe Biden did not win the last election. There is no way in hell that he got 81 million votes. That is where they stand as they continue the war upon our democracy.

Democrats have one of two choices. They can continue to fight or they can surrender.

Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.

LBJ would have played hardball against the congressional insurrectionists.

He would have called each of them personally and told them that they would not be receiving any money from the national Party in their re-election bids.

Furthermore, he would have promised them a primary challenger in the next election if they did not get on board immediately.

He would have warned them that they would be without a job in the next election and that lives would be a living hell.

If that did not work, he would promise them that he would have their nuts in his pockets if they were looking for them.

If they wanted to play hardball, then he would have been more than willing to accommodate them.

In 1856, 133 ballots to elect a Speaker of the House...

It was a barometer of the most divisive time in our history and a precursor of the insurrection and war against our government, that was to come just five years later.

(snip)
Shortly before seven o’clock in the evening, on Saturday, February 2, 1856, Nathaniel P. Banks of Massachusetts, strode to the well of the House, climbed the rostrum’s few steps to the Speaker’s chair, and sat down. He paused for a moment. With his thick dark hair swept to one side and a prominent mustache obscuring his upper lip, Banks then stood to address his colleagues.

A few minutes earlier, Banks had been elected Speaker for the 34th Congress (1855–1857). He had celebrated his 40th birthday just three days before, but now faced perhaps the toughest job in American politics at the time: leading a House that seemed hopelessly divided. His election as Speaker came almost two months to the day after the House first met on December 3, 1855. Members had cast 132 ballots for Speaker before finally electing Banks on the 133rd.

When he spoke, Banks, a former journalist-turned-lawyer from a town just west of Boston, thanked the House “for the honor” to serve as Speaker, but admitted it was a weighty task. “It would afford me far greater pleasure in taking the chair of the House,” he said, “were I supported even by the self-assurance that I could bring to the discharge of its duties—always arduous and delicate, and now environed with unusual difficulties—any capacity commensurate with their responsibility and dignity.”

What he unassumingly called “unusual difficulties” was, in fact, the fallout from the most chaotic period in House history.
