Oh Elon... are you going for one major misstep per day?

Twitter announces, then quickly retracts ban on promoting other social media

CEO Elon Musk posted poll asking, "Should I step down as head of Twitter?" and says he'll abide by the results.

Hours after Twitter banned users from promoting accounts on other major social media sites, including Facebook, Instagram and Truth Social, the controversial prohibition vanished from its policy page.

The new, restrictive policy came after many users, eyeing the exit doors, began posting links to their accounts on other platforms following Elon Musk's takeover as CEO of Twitter and its subsequent reinstatement of far-right accounts, suspension of journalists and mass layoffs.

"We recognize that many of our users are active on other social media platforms," Twitter support tweeted Sunday. "However, we will no longer allow free promotion of certain social media platforms on Twitter."

The platform and Musk were then subjected to resounding criticism for a move that seemed to defy the spirit of an internet built on free market-style cross-linking.

A few hours after the policy's announcement, Musk appeared to contradict it in a tweet that said, “Casually sharing occasional links is fine, but no more relentless advertising of competitors for free, which is absurd in the extreme.”

By evening, the platform's page with the new policy language had vanished under the "page not found" 404 heading, indicating deleted or moved content. There was no word on whether the policy had been formally rescinded. References to the prohibition on outside social media also disappeared from Twitter Support's feed Sunday night without explanation.

The policy was criticized as ironic for a CEO who vowed to be a "free speech absolutist." Some noted that Tesla, the electric vehicle company run by Musk, once encouraged fans to visit its Facebook page. (He famously deleted it in 2018).

Earlier Sunday, Musk also apologized for the abrupt policy change that followed weeks of tumult since his Oct. 27 takeover. Since then, Twitter has laid off or seen the exodus of thousands of employees, more than half its workforce, botched introduction of paid verification for users and suspended a half-dozen journalists. They were reinstated late Friday.

The timing of the Jan 6 Committee report (coming out Wednesday) shows it's NOT political

They're documenting the extent which Congressional Republicans were actively involved in the 2021 coup plot. It's pretty stunning that they're putting this information out over a month after the election since a serious, if not majority, amount of this evidence must have been on hand long before the election.

Chris Christie's niece bites officers, injures 6, at NOLA airport

source: Chris Christie's niece kicked off New Orleans plane, injured 6 deputies, officials say:

After getting forced off an airplane for asking passengers who appeared to her to be Latino whether they were drug mules, a niece of former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie bit, kicked and spit on Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies trying to detain her on Thanksgiving Day at Louis Armstrong International Airport, authorities said.

Shannon Epstein, 25, boarded the Spirit Airlines flight to New Jersey on Nov. 24 at about 6 a.m., and asked a family who were near her and whom she perceived to be Latino if they were "smuggling cocaine," said Capt. Jason Rivarde, a Sheriff's Office spokesperson. Airline workers requested Epstein be removed from the plane as she became increasingly irate, and the plane, which had started to taxi to the runway, returned to the gate, Rivarde said Friday.

When deputies arrived, Epstein refused to exit the jet bridge into the terminal, Rivarde said. When they tried to arrest her, she became "extremely combative," Rivarde said.

Six deputies hurt: In the scuffle, she injured six deputies, biting one on the arm and breaking the skin, and kicking another in the groin, Rivarde said. They were treated there by paramedics.

I wonder if Chris Christie is having his family beat up police for doing their jobs as a way of appealing to pro-Jan6 voters in the Republican base.

Just appalling that Warnock is only 2 points ahead of Walker in polls

I think the margin of victory will be more than 2% over the 50% marker, but even so, can you imagine running into 100 random people and having 45-48 of them explain why Herschel Walker should be one of their two voices legislators in (what used to be) world's greatest debating society?

Do they think that workers are paid too much?
That insulin prices are too low?
That billionaires are overtaxed and need a break?

Warnock holds narrow lead over Walker in Georgia runoff: poll

Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) holds a narrow 2 percentage point lead over Republican rival Herschel Walker in the Georgia Senate runoff, according to a new survey from Emerson College Polling and The Hill.

The poll released on Thursday found that 49 percent of very likely voters surveyed said they would back Warnock, compared to 47 percent who said they would vote for Walker. A separate 4 percent said they were undecided; that polling falls within the margin of error, effectively tying the two candidates.
