The headline on CNBC online is the “Dow recovers after the worst sell off since March”. The Dow is up less than 200 points after an 1800 point selloff. how does that qualify as a recovery? Yes, if it came back 1550 points I’d say sure.

Morning essay: polishing knobs at FOX and elsewhere:

When I was in high school taking one of my six years of Latin, our class read an essay written by one of those obscure Roman authors and the title of the essay, and I’ll paraphrase was “The Reason for the Need of Power” or somesuch phrase to that effect.

The essence of the essay was that the reason men aspire to power is not for money or for titular naming of the position, but for access to sex and sexuality. Now I’m not saying that this is exclusively the case, but it is a prevalent desire of these people who rise to great heights. It is often difficult for some people to discuss, some people dismiss it out of hand, some people feel that sex is overrated, and I understand all these things, however, in many cases this is the truth.

The avenues by which these people utilize their power varies. In many cases in modern times it leads to their fall from grace, witness Charlie Rose, Matt Lauer, producer Weinstein. The interesting aspect of this objectively is any and all of these men given their wealth given their position and in many cases given the relative good looks since they are on television that by definition generally presentable, should be able to score a partner or series of partners in the real world without having to have a button under their desk to lock the door.

And the reason that I know this, is it I am certainly no Brad Pitt but in my day was able to be reasonably successful in pursuing my social life. But these people, particularly these men, have the need to strong arm Others in order to take advantage of them rather than seduce them. I don’t really care what Hannity does in his spare time, in fact I wish he had more spare time and was off the air pursuing his love interest. The world would be a better place for that, but propinquity propinks And these things happen.

The best thing that can be said about this union is it keeps two normal people out of trouble somewhere along the line.

See, I think that the "photo-op" was a McGuffin

For those of you not acquainted with a McGuffin, it was a device which Alfred Hitchcock termed for an element within his films. The McGuffin was that thing which The diabolical thief or spy was trying to steal or smuggle. The actual content of the material was irrelevant to the process, for example, in the film North by Northwest James Mason‘s character is attempting to smuggle government secrets across the border. We never know what those secrets are, because it doesn’t really matter. We know they’re important and what we are concerned with is stopping him.

In the same manner, The walk and ensuing Bible holding was irrelevant. What Trump wanted to do was gas the protesters. Of course, they were no threat to him or the White House, so they needed to create some moment where he would walk out for some reason. Since these people completely lack creativity, and really don’t care, they came up with this bogus Bible holding Moment. What he wanted to show what is it he could gas American citizens in the capital and get away with it. The Walk was an irrelevant coda. In other words everything after gassing was all bullshit. This is nothing new, we should be used to this by now.

Speaking of codas, I do recall being told in my youth by my parents at the beginning of the end of Herbert Hoover was when he ordered the military to fire upon the poor demonstrating in Washington. I have never researched the details of that, but presume that it has an element of truth, because I want it to. 😄. Look, if that brand of logic is good enough for Trump it should be good enough for me.

Interesting story: a few years ago Some asshole young adult homophobes feloniously assaulted a gay couple here in Philly’s center city. They got caught by an ATM camera which was literally below my window on 16th Street. One of the individuals was the daughter of a suburban police Chief.

This is A Montgomery county (Suburban Philly) PA commissioner, who sent out a communication to the residents. On top of the virulent hatred of the “left”, he of course uses the term “Democrat” rather than “Democratic”. But I digress.

I was a resident of Montgomery County for 40 years. When I first moved there it was an extremely Republican leaning right wing county we are in the entire government was controlled by the hardest of hard-core establishment Republicans, some with the old-school mentality, many with a blatant angry racist, anti-Semitic, bigoted outlook. Over the years, as Philadelphians migrated into Montgomery County it has become purple leaning towards blue in many areas. The town in which I lived, Narberth, was run by Republicans since the Civil War or before. Never had a Democrat set foot as an official in the Townhall. A number of years ago during one of the midterm elections, the council for the town became democratic. The funny part of the story, and I know I posted it here, was it a number of the ousted republicans showed up for work on the first day of the Democratic administration, and had to be sent home. They could not conceive that they were no longer in power.

This same scenario may play out in the White House in Washington DC.

I’m buying a large sailboat and some Boardwalk property, quitting my job, and going sailing for six months. Then I’ll decide which coastal area I wish to permanently reside in, and build my custom house with pool and jacuzzi overlooking the ocean so I can watch the sunrises or the sunsets, depending. I’m sooo happy!!! All that loot for posting on DU all these years: 16! It came to $300,000.00 a year!!!!

I said to him you remind me of a joke. Two guys come down here to the Atlantic City casinos and promptly lose nearly all their money. They walk to the Boardwalk and are standing there and one of them has a flash: “How much money do you have left?” His buddy replies “A couple Bucks, why?” His fried replies, “Gimme it, I’ll be right back.” He goes into the drugstore and comes back with a small bag. He says, “OK, we going to go swimming,then horseback riding, then we’ll play some tennis.” His buddy says, “We are broke. How are we gonna do that?” The other guy replies, “Well I bought this box of tampons. It says we can go swimming, horseback riding, and play tennis!! All for $2.50!!!”

Btw, “frum” means very observant of the Jewish Religion.

In keeping with the renaming of the street to BLM in DC

I propose That the street which runs in front of Trump properties in the United States be renamed for that block to Barack Obama Way.

It should become the official street address permanently so all mail delivered must contain that street name. In addition, of course since Trump controls the Postal Service at this time that requirement would not be in effect. But it’s not gonna last forever, folks! It should be the first thing the president Biden does upon his inauguration with trump sitting there at the ceremony. And if he’s not sitting there at the ceremony Biden should point to the two empty seats for him and Melania, and say that the former Hair Furor is in Absentia, Having moved back to his residence on Barack Obama Way.

The 2 million or so in attendance will roar with laughter.

Well, we are opening the dental practice fullbore on Monday.

It will actually be my seventh week back to work in some capacity, I’ve been doing mostly emergencies and things which are brewing which will cause trouble shortly. But the hygienist are returning and elective work is permitted in Pennsylvania and our schedule filled almost immediately.

What I find very interesting is that the vast number of people implicitly trust us to do the right thing. Which we are. We have all that PPE equipment, air filtration, chemicals and everything else which is required for this. We have course will not utilize our waiting room the way we used to, people will wait outside or in a different place and once we have been advised of their arrival, we will call them and we will bring them directly into the dental chair. Five chairs no waiting. It takes somewhat longer to clean up the room and so obviously we will see fewer patients but I will tell you that it has actually become easier to practice because once again, people realize the value of the services I provide.

Now what is not being discussed is that the insurance companies have not been processing the claims in an appropriate manner so what many officers have done is bill the patients for the insurance fee in full at the time of the visit and get the reimbursement to the patients either directly or through the doctor. This has led to many fascinating discussions with long-term patients who are Appropriately quite upset at the new system, but even they understand the exigencies of the new normal.

Nothing is the same as it was four months ago in any respect in any aspect of our lives. I don’t know that this will be permanent but it has been a seachange and I believe that the sane middle of the road politically Is finally beginning to understand just how crazy the right wing is, and how destructive they are to the fabric of society. It took a triple crisis to get through to many of these people, but I think they’ve got it now. At least I hope and pray so, at least.
