barbtries's Journalthe best of us and the worst of us.
Extreme times bring out both. I just happened to run across these on twitter within a single minute.

My son overheard an elderly man, not looking the healthiest also wearing a mask, ask a man to kindly cover his cough. The man stepped closer, coughed again as he yelled " MAGA"...

Yesterday, my neighbour left me some homeade soup to pick up from outside; while I am recovering from a mild case of COVID. When I got there, I found not only a big container of piping hot soup, but two huge bags of shopping. I almost burst into tears. She barely knows me.
Demographics I want to be seeing
The true number of infections
The method of transmission
The percentage of hospitalization-required, ventilator-required patients
Ages of people infected
Relative risk per ages in real, reliable percentages
Actual state of PPE availability
Percentage of health care workers infected
I look every day and cannot get these numbers. I do hope that some day they will be available for epidemiologists to study for the future and the next pandemic.
Even going to the most reliable sources I am aware of these are obscure, unavailable and of course, constantly changing. All that is clear is that the number of infected people continues to rise globally, nationally, and at the local level. It was not that long ago that NC reported its first case. i want to say it was just 2 days ago the number went up to 200, today it's almost 300. And we know these numbers are grossly under-reported because of the lack of test availability.
It's frustrating. Stay the fuck home y'all and stay well!!
my son just got home from work.
he works in the meat department in a grocery. he's home about 3 hours early and as he walked in the door the first thing I said to him was, "Are you well?"
he's fine. he didn't have anything to do. no truck on Saturdays and all the meat is all gone. nothing to stock. it's the first time it's happened since life changed. afraid it won't be the last. sigh.
Is anyone else
looking at local/state/other country sources more than at trump and pence to be informed about the pandemic?
i just watched Cuomo's press conference, and now I'm fixing to watch Manitoba's update. I've also watched Jay Inslee more than once, Los Angeles when they announced the school closings, etc.
I don't trust pence to tell the truth. I'm beginning to have doubts about even the scientists they bring on. their number one is protect trump and fuck the country.
I'm also looking at my county and state pages, WHO's briefings, the Johns Hopkins dashboard. By the way the numbers are never up to date because they move too fast. This is like nothing ever before in my 64 years, nothing even in my parents' lifetimes. My father was born the year after the 1918 flu and my mother in 1925. Both long dead.
I'm talking to my children about it and need to write a will asap, because if i do get it there's a fairly good chance it will kill me. My son works in a grocery store and is going to work as usual. He tells me everything is disappearing before the next truck. I'm hopeful we're well stocked at least until the panic dies down and supplies are more plentiful.
Stay well DU.
it took me until today
though i knew i would switch to Biden as soon as Elizabeth Warren dropped out.
i am still sad and mad. But Biden is clearly the only candidate left in the race who truly puts his country first. His candidacy is not about ego. He's slowed down, and who can blame him? he is old, he is bereaved, but. When he becomes president there will be sanity in this country. We need to put him over the top, vote in November in unprecedented numbers, keep the House, win the Senate, and then, we can begin the task of reclaiming our democracy.
It won't be done in my lifetime, i am convinced. trump and republicans have done so much damage it will be generations. Joe Biden is a decent start, a decent man, and a true patriot.
I cry when I vote.
Just got back from voting, where I had to sit in the car afterward for a minute to compose myself.
I've always done. I can remember in the 80s trying to get out of the polling place before the tears fell. I think it's patriotism. I think voting is the most profound expression of democracy, and I love democracy. I find myself overwhelmed by taking an active part in this momentous occasion. Plus I want my candidates to win so bad, and it means so much.
I will never forgive republicans for diminishing the power of the vote in this country, for sullying my love for my country, for doing everything and anything they can to disempower anyone who isn't them. Never. I want them erased.
