OHIO MOTHER ACCIDENTALLY SHOOTS DAUGHTER AFTER SHE CAME HOME FROM COLLEGE TO SURPRISE HER

It's not mental illness here, ReThugs! Although this poor mother, who made a terrible panic-striken decision, will probably suffer from mental issues for the rest of her life now...

A woman shot her 18-year-old daughter in her home after she came back from college to surprise her, according to reports. The daughter is recovering after she was shot in the arm in Girard, Ohio, on the evening of August 30.

Police said the mother was alone in the bedroom when she heard noises from inside the house. The mother became startled as she was not expecting anyone to come over. The mother said she then saw someone running into the bedroom, at which point she fired her .38 special handgun, hitting her daughter once.

Police say they were called at around 9 p.m. to the 200 block of Ohio Avenue by the victim's boyfriend. A transcript of the 911 call made by the boyfriend, obtained by WFMJ, has him describing the 18-year-old's injuries to the dispatcher.

"My girlfriend just came home from college and her mom didn't know, like honestly—she accidentally shot her and we don't know what to do," he said. "It's pretty bad."

Biden fundraises from lobbyists despite pledge

Apparently his campaign has now pledged to return this money.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Joe Biden entered the Democratic primary promising “from day one” to reject campaign cash from lobbyists.

“I work for you — not any industry,” he tweeted.

Yet hours after his April campaign kickoff, the former vice president went to a fundraiser at the home of a lobbying executive. And in the months since, he’s done it again and again. It’s difficult to quantify how much Biden has raised from the multibillion-dollar influence industry, but the roughly $200,000 he accepted from employees of major lobbying firms is far more than any of his rivals has received, according to a review of campaign finance data by The Associated Press.

Though it’s a small fraction of the $21.5 million he reported raising in the second quarter of 2019, the money demonstrates a comfort with an industry that is the object of scorn of Democratic activists and some of Biden’s principal rivals.

Merkel hints at return to academia after politics

She'll be a true asset to whichever institution she chooses.

LEIPZIG, Germany (Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel appeared to suggest on Saturday that she might return to academia at the end of her current term in office, which ends in 2021.

“All universities that have given me an honorary doctorate will anyway hear from me again when I’m no longer chancellor,” Merkel, who has been in office since 2005, said in a speech at the HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management.

HHL gave Merkel, a former physicist, the honorary qualification at a ceremony attended by Christine Lagarde, the nominee to become next head of the European Central Bank.

“I will return and will not be staying for a short time like today. (I) will be staying longer,” said Merkel, drawing laughter from the audience.
