Ezra Klein Explains The Fundamental Problem With American Government Pod Save America

This is wonky but it's a fantastic explanation of our politics and especially what's going on in the Senate. The title is no exaggeration. Well worth the time. Democracy is on the line. Dems need to go big or go home.

"Sorry we tried to assassinate you & overthrow the election. We didn’t expect it to fail & create this awkwardness between us. Let’s move forward & get back to normal with us blocking any legislation you introduce while we continue to feed a racist terrorist movement.

What rightwingers/delorables are now being distracted with-- they make me sick

There's meme that is a huge deal with the rightwing now. It's based on a video clip with Biden signing orders at his desk where you can't even clearly hear what he's saying. They claim he says "I don't even know what I'm signing". All I can hear -- even with the volume turned all the way up and listening closely-- is "I'm signing". But the right has TOTALLY LATCHED onto this as PROOF that Biden is senile and being manipulated to sign things he doesn't understand. They don't listen to him talk or read any actual news stories about what he's doing. It's sickening. It's so depressing how easily manipulated the rigtwing is-- it's no wonder Trump chose that arm of our political system for his illegal conjob presidency. My god, what can we do with these people???

Not sure if I should provide the link here or not but I have it if anyone wants to see it. It's so ridiculous.

Donald Trump's Final Days

Source: Wall Street Journal

"The best outcome would be for him to resign to spare the U.S. another impeachment fight."

The lodestar of these columns is the U.S. Constitution. The document is the durable foundation protecting liberty, and this week it showed its virtue again. Despite being displaced for a time by a mob, Congress returned the same day to ratify the Electoral College vote and Joe Biden’s election. Congratulations to the President-elect, who will be inaugurated as the Constitution stipulates at noon on Jan. 20.

That still leaves Wednesday’s disgrace and what to do about the 13 days left in Donald Trump’s presidential term. Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi are demanding that Mr. Trump be removed from office immediately—either by the Cabinet under the 25th Amendment or new articles of impeachment. There’s partisan animus at work here, but Mr. Trump’s actions on Wednesday do raise constitutional questions that aren’t casually dismissed.

In concise summary, on Wednesday the leader of the executive branch incited a crowd to march on the legislative branch. The express goal was to demand that Congress and Vice President Mike Pence reject electors from enough states to deny Mr. Biden an Electoral College victory. When some in the crowd turned violent and occupied the Capitol, the President caviled and declined for far too long to call them off. When he did speak, he hedged his plea with election complaint.

This was an assault on the constitutional process of transferring power after an election. It was also an assault on the legislature from an executive sworn to uphold the laws of the United States. This goes beyond merely refusing to concede defeat. In our view it crosses a constitutional line that Mr. Trump hasn’t previously crossed. It is impeachable.

WSJ calling for Trump's resignation seems significant and welcome.

Ashli Babbit's screeching deluded rant

OMFG, she's horrible. I cannot feel any sympathy, even knowing how brainwashed she must have become.

Where Trump got all those new voters

Analysis here.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/01/05/trump-lost-he-won-millions-new-voters-where-did-they-come/?arc404=true

I do think a huge part of his appeal was for less educated working class people who thought the pandemic was overblown and just wanted to get back to work. His re-open everything message must have been very appealing to them, but obviously it was shortsighted given the awful consequences now-- the growing death toll.

Noteworthy to me is he got 1.5 million new votes in California, especially in around LA. I think this might explain better why they are having such a large COVID19 outbreak there.

Meanwhile on FoxNews...

My wife turned it on to see what they were saying.

Saw the end of Bret Baier, nothing on the call, just the GA runoffs. The chyron only referred to some Islamic terrorism (!) stuff and the GA runoffs.

Then Mark Levin came on at 8pm, who is truly deranged. He was literally ranting about how Dems are going to destroy the country, calling Kamala Harris a neo-marxist, if they take the Senate in the GA runoffs and did some pseudo-analysis of the constitution.

NOTHING about the Trump phone call. That's propaganda for you.
