New York judge rules law allowing non-citizens to vote is unconstitutional

Source: MSN/Reuters

A New York state judge struck down a new law on Monday that gave hundreds of thousands of non-citizen residents of New York City the right to vote in municipal elections.

Judge Ralph Porzio, of New York State Supreme Court for Staten Island, ruled the law violated the state constitution, which says that "[e]very citizen" is entitled to vote.

The City Council, controlled by Democrats, passed the law last December, and it went into effect after both Mayor Bill de Blasio and his successor in January, Eric Adams, declined to either sign it or veto it.

The law allowed an estimated 800,000 to 1 million non-citizens living in the city as lawful permanent residents of the United States or with U.S. authorization to work here to vote in elections for city-wide office, but not in state-wide or federal elections. There are about 6.7 million people of voting age in New York City.

To all of the women, I am sorry I have let you down.

I have marched. I have donated. I have voted. All religiously for many, many years. And still, under my watch, this happens to you. I am very sorry and I will do everything I can to donate to people in the horrible states that are repressing your rights to get you to where you need to be so you can have your healthcare addressed adequately.
I will continue to march. I will continue to donate. I will continue to vote. I won't stop until this wrong is righted. My heart breaks, I actually haven't been able to even look on DU or other sites online. This is the first time. I was in such a depressed state yesterday, of which I still am.
I feel like a boat without a rudder, a sail without wind, a person without a country. But it will not stop nor deter me, I will keep fighting for you with everything that I have in my soul.
Please hang in there, we are going to fix this!!!!

Seems that President Biden got foot caught in clip on bike and fell over

He had basically come to a stop, but couldn't get his foot out of the clip when putting it down. Hope he is ok. I love him getting exercise and getting outside, but definitely scary seeing someone his age take a spill. Have had that with my grandparents and parents in the past and that can end up bad. Keep fighting Joe!

This is a Black man that they need to teach about in schools - Dr. L.D. Britt

I know him personally, our daughters are very good friends. I don't have many heroes, but Dr. Britt is certainly one of them. The list of what he has accomplished in his lifetime is enormous. Not only for a Black man raised in the South, but for any person anywhere. Even with his accomplishments, he is the most humble, down to earth, and warm person. I wish he was a household name across our nation. It swells me with pride to know that I know Dr. Britt on a personal level, and he is without a doubt a national treasure.

Pineberries. Ever had them? Yum!

Saw them in Aldi's and decided to try them. They looked a bit weird, but I am always game to at least try something once. Wow, very pleasantly surprised. Delicious!

VA delegate seeks restraining order against Barnes & Noble over 'Gender Queer'

Source: NBC WAVY-10

A book retailer may be facing a legal fight in Virginia over selling certain YA books.

According to a Facebook post, Attorney and state delegate Tim Anderson and his client Tommy Altman, a congressional candidate in the district around Virginia Beach, said “the Virginia Beach Circuit Court has found probable cause that the books “Gender Queer” and “A Court of Mist and Fury” are obscene to unrestricted viewing by minors.”

The post goes on to say that Altman has directed Anderson’s office to “seek a restraining order against Barnes and Noble and Virginia Beach Schools” in order to stop the sale or loaning of these books to minors without parental consent.

“We are in a major fight. Suits like this can be filed all over Virginia. There are dozens of books. Hundreds of schools,” the Facebook post reads.

I guess some "Cancel Culture" is ok to them. Next thing you know it will be house to house searches for "offending materials".

I'm sorry, but bring back death penalty in New York! I know I will be flamed for this.

Some cases that are just so heinous and it is undeniable who the perpetrator was should be subject to the death penalty. I don't care that it brings us to their level or the other arguments against it. This piece of shit in New York does not deserve to spend the rest of his life in prison probably being treated like a king because Aryan Brotherhood and who knows who else in prison will have his back. He is going to be getting free Oreos from the canteen because of his martyr status with them. Meanwhile, families of the victims are going to have to pay for it in taxes. To hell with that. I think it should be an extremely rare event when capital punishment is used given its penchant for being applied for horrendous reasons like racism or god forbid, innocent people getting executed. But there are just some cases where it is deserved, and we know it is 100% the right person. This shit stain needs to go bye bye.

Jen Psaki appreciation thread. Bye Jen, we are going to MISS you!

Look forward to watching you on TV, but the selfish part of me wants you in that Press Room dealing out the facts like they need to be. I know Karine will do great, but she has some big shoes to fill! Thank you for all that you have done!

Which member of the Third Reich does this look like?

I would have to say Joachim Peiper. What a creepy photo.
