momta's JournalNew Colorado red flag law expansion -- allowing more people to seek a gun-removal order -- clears first hurdle

The law, which allows judges to issue extreme risk protection orders, now allows family members, law enforcement, health care professionals and educators to petition the courts to require people to surrender their firearms temporarily. The judge must find the person to be a risk to themselves or others.
Senate Bill 4 would expand that list of petitioners to include behavioral health professionals who are co-responders with police or other authorities in emergencies, as well as health care and educational institutions.
Tom Sullivan is a good guy. He lost his son in the Aurora theatre shooting, and has been fighting for gun control ever since.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who has thought of this...
The Pretti Good DHS Reform bill.
Write it. Sponsor it. Pass it.
Damn.
I have a friend living with us for while. One of her two cats died suddenly this morning. My friend is destroyed. Her kitty was only three years old.
Gonna have to miss the protest, but for a good reason.

Our town is devastated
I live in a small town in Colorado--about 1500 people. Last night a fire burned down the main shopping center in town. Over twenty businesses were destroyed. My family is okay, but a lot of my friends lost their businesses and jobs. This is gonna take a long time to come back from.

There are lots of ways to help if you can, some listed in the articles.
PragerU's Terrible Shakespeare Opinions, or Why I Stopped Talking About Shakespeare
I love Kyle Kallgren, and his knowledge about this subject is exquisite. The video's long, but I really enjoyed it.
Seriously, CNN?
I only know about the tragic explosion at a Pennsylvania steel plant because of DU:

Meanwhile, on their front page CNN has a story about Taco Bell adding Mountain Dew Midnight to their drink selection.
So, I have to lose my medical privacy so that...
God forbid, some poor, undocumented immigrant doesn't accidentally get emergency medical care.
I am so sick of this.

"That's not the National Guard. That's bait."
I heard someone on MSNBC say this yesterday. I wish I could remember who it was. Great line.
I nominate Zelensky as the new "Leader of the free world"
It certainly isn't the dumbshit we elected.
Dr. Warren Hern closes Boulder Abortion Clinic after 50 years
Source: Boulder Daily Camera
The Boulder Abortion Clinic, one of the relatively few options for third-trimester pregnancy terminations and a frequent target of anti-abortion demonstrators, has closed after 50 years.
Dr. Warren Hern, the clinics outspoken director, said Wednesday that hed run the practice for 50 years as of January, and saw his final patient last week. The clinics website has been replaced by a message that it would no longer accept patients, though a staff member still answered the phone as of mid-week.
Ive done my best to do this well, Hern said in an interview about his decision to retire. Its time.
Most states have a limit on how far into pregnancy doctors can perform an abortion. Colorado is one of nine states without a limit, according to the Guttmacher Institute. A ballot initiative to add a 22-week limit in 2020 failed, with 59% of voters rejecting it.

Dr. Hern is an absolute hero!
Years ago, my kids and I would pass his office when I would drive them in to Boulder for middle school. There were huge wrought-iron fences up all around it, and ALWAYS protesters outside.
Warren Hern endured decades of death threats from forced-birth extremists. He also endured the murder of his good friend of Dr. Tiller in Kansas in 2009.
I've never met him, but I can't begin to tell you how much I have revered him over the years.
