rasputin1952's JournalI am lucky(?)...
I posted this as a reply, but I don't think it should be buried, please bear with me:
I am in Lincoln NE these days and both Sen's (Rickets & Fischer) have an office in the same building. I will be visiting both tomorrow in the morning.
My Rep (Flood) is nearby, so his office is going to be the final one (if I don't get arrested). All three are R's, which makes it easy for me, they will get no mercy!
Then I have been a member of the Arbor Day Foundation for years, and I'll get more coffee, and make it my final visit. After the SoCal fires, they have the resources to plant a tree for a buck apiece in affected areas. $10, 10 trees, $50, 50 trees. Everything helps, and they have boots on the ground. https://www.arborday.org/
There is an Indivisible meet-up (video) on Feb 5, and I am hooking up with them as well. Lincoln has a Chapter, but I haven't been able to pinpoint the precise location.
We also have a Democratic Office here, but I think I'm going to have to be a little more pro-active, silence is NOT an option.
You can find your local Indivisible Group by going to their site: https://indivisible.org
Don't go it alone, there is strength in numbers and some damn good ideas that can be used locally, we can stop this!
Let's crush this!
MSNBC doing a Fact Check immediately after Presser...
plenty of checks on the BS.
Still waiting where the 14th Amendment is "unconstitutional".
First female Coast Guard commandant ousted
Source: The Hill/Ellen Mitchell - 01/21/25
U.S. Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Linda Fagan, who made history as the first female uniformed leader of a U.S. military branch, was unexpectedly ousted by President Trump less than 24 hours into his second term.
In a message sent to all Coast Guard members on Tuesday morning, acting Secretary of Homeland Security Benjamine Huffman said he had relieved Fagan of her duties.
She served a long and illustrious career, and I thank her for her service to our nation, Huffman said, offering no further explanation for her abrupt ouster.

This is the first, who's next?
Edited: lousy C&P job on title.
For those who are despondent...
DO NOT give in. This is not the end of our nation as a democratic Republic.
Resistance is paramount. Make your Congresscritters feel the pain of their commitment to this sack-of-shit.
If they go along with some of the proposals T**** comes up with, hit the phones, calmly, but firmly, tell them that their jobs are on the line if they are compliant with the incoming administration. If your critters are D's, they need to hear from you.
The only way we can fail as a nation is if we allow it to happen. MAGAts are a small element of the equation. I see non-voters as compliant with what is happening, so it is imperative to start now, on getting them involved.
Face facts, we have been lackadaisical in our efforts, we should be at the forefront of change, not sitting in the dust awaiting some form of positive change. It is our responsibility as citizens to protect democracy and elevate everyone to a higher level equality, and we can only do that if we persevere to produce positive results.
Let us not fall into a grayzone, we have the opportunity to neuter the upcoming administration in 2026. That is our goal now.
Let's get moving and change what we can, locally and nationally.
Thank you...
It is times like this that bring back wonderful memories from my (and I'm sure many others) distant past.
If you have no objections, I would like to share your poem with my family tomorrow.
When I print it, I will be sure to leave out the picture of your sons, adorable as they are. I do not feel comfortable with
putting personal pictures, especially children, for the public to see.
I also have a radio program out of Boston College on Sunday mornings. May I have your permission to read this on the air?
My show is Truth and Justice Radio, WZBC Newton MA. (0600-1000 Eastern). It would be one of my closing pieces and
can be found at truthandjusticeradio.org where the last two weeks are archived, of course, you will be credited for the
piece I will also accredit DU and use your username. Your poem will be near the 0950 mark, depending on the timing of the material
I will be covering, and editing.
If you send me a recording of your voice reading the poem in a PM (mp3 format), it would be my pleasure to use that.
I do the show remotely, as I am now located in Lincoln, NE.
Sincerely,
Ras
By now, the shock should be over.
It is imperative that we organize.
Indivisible has a long and distinguished presence, it is one place you may try to either enter a group of like-minded people or, start your own group.
No one here (other than trolls) is stupid. Most assuredly, I am not for violence, but there may be times when you go to places where a bunch of fools running around trying to intimidate you/us. Don't fall for it. These people are not the brightest bulbs, but they are not going to shoot you in the street, nor are they going to beat you, it is all an act. Unless there is a large group, these people are essentially cowards. If you have a group meeting on how to conduct yourselves, get in touch with congresscritters, and parse out a viable strategy, in the unlikely case where a bunch of "proud boys" show up on your doorstep. Have someone in the group call 911 while you hold your own at the door, remaining calm (they are not going to kill you). When the PD arrives, tell the officers that these people are trespassing on your property, armed and possibly dangerous.
In most states, if you trespass it's a misdemeanor. If you trespass armed, depending on the locale, those expensive firearms can be confiscated. Just imagine Bubba losing his $1500 AR-15, there goes the beer money for two months.
I would not worry about any blowback from such groups, after all, a slew of them have been arrested and it's easy to track them down if there is some form of retaliation.
With that said, unless your, or someone else's life is in danger, never resort to violence. To the vast number of citizens, the easiest way to move people away from your cause is to wind up in a violent situation. Your power to remain calm during times of duress will draw people to your cause. There is no shame in turning your back on some screaming moron and walking away. The reality is, witnesses will respect you.
Outreach: You know the people you hang out with, and they know people of a like mind that you don't, this is how you create a network of like-minded people that can be brought together in a powerful force. Currently, I am in Nebraska (after twelve years in Boston). I speak to people in coffee shops, in lines at the store, etc. I won't dive into a diatribe of political discourse, I speak with people respectfully, listen to their views, and when the "right time" comes (if at all) I explain the truth. In the past week, particularly over the last two days, I have spoken with DJT voters who are horrified at the choices being made for Cabinet positions, and the thought of Recess Appointments is a hot-button issue, even among his most strident supporters.
We can complain, or we can act. We can have a deep impact on the mid-terms, turning both Houses if we come together. DJT will be neutered (if he lives that long) and once again the GOP will be wallowing in the sty they have created.
Forget the blame game. It is time to come together and pave the road to ensuring our Democratic Republic is retained.
What the Hell Happened?
I woke up at 5, (CST) turned on the TV, and damn near dropped dead.
Now I am in the "stunned" stage, how could this have happened after all of the individuals who signed up to vote for the first time?
I expected him to take NE, but not the rest of the states where he "did well".
This is a serious disaster. campaigning as an idiot, lackluster at best, how could this moron pull this off?
Either the nation fell into a cesspool, or something is seriously wrong. There are only so many "low information" voters.
The price we will pay is beyond my comprehension at this point.
I'm Back!
After an exceptionally long hiatus (my bad), a Prodigal DUer has returned.
Hello, and good tidings to all who know me. To those who don't, it's my pleasure to meet you.
Eons ago, I was a Moderator here, now I find many of my fellow DU'ers are on the Memoriam Page, this saddens me deeply.
What saddens me more, is that there will be another name added to that list, unhappycamper who passed from this
plane, April 12, 2023.
I met him via DU some 20 years ago, we served together on many stints as Moderators, he from Boston, me from Nebraska.
I went to Boston to recover from pneumonia at the VA there and was to spend two weeks. That turned into just over 12 years.
He was not just my brother-in-arms, he was family. I stayed in his Condo for those years, we shared stories, wished we were a lot younger as we drove through Boston and saw "them new fangled women folk" that didn't exist when we were younger (what the hell happened???)
On October 2, 2022, I found him on the Living Room floor, he had had a stroke. After calling 911, I took his vitals, made him comfortable and he was coherent. 9 days after he was admitted to Mass Gen Hospital (he was doing well, standing and getting some function to his affected side), a clot created an aneurysm, which blew and everything went catastrophic. I was his Health Care Proxy and POA.
Five months ago, another DUer, and Moderator, Treasonous Bastard also a one time Moderator, and my actual older brother passed from this plane. Type 2 Diabetes robbed him of sight in his left eye due to macular detachment, and he was taking that long walk into Dementia.
When I happened upon DU, via an email, I scrolled down and saw the Memoriam page. We didn't have that in my days on DU, and we were losing people, damn good people. Kephra, oneighty, maddiejoan, ElizabethEdwards, blondeatlast, aliengirl, NNNOHLI, Bartcop, opihimoimoi, pinto, JeffR, William Pitt, madfloridian, nevergiveup, The Magistrate.
I worked with these people, and knew them as part of the larger cause, they, like all Duers, are part of something greater than ourselves.
We are family.
Skinner has retired, EarlG answered my email (I know, things are hectic, 45 is a bigger butt nugget than anyone imagined could happen) and I've been working my butt off in NE for Harris/Walz, FWIW: There is but a single DJT lawn sign in Lincoln NE and well over 250 Harris/Walz!
OK, I'm up to date, back on DU, and ready to go to work for the Cause. Let's do this and keep a healthy Constitutional republic alive and well!

The USPS
It has been a long time since I started a thread, so please bear with me.
There are murmurs again about the GOP closing the Post Offices: simple answer, they can't
The GOP has been hellbent on shuttering the USPS for decades, that way, their "sponsors", UPS, FedEx, Deihl, et al.
Once again, the genius of Ben Franklin strikes a beautiful chord in our lives.
Article 1; section 8:
"To establish Post Offices and post Roads"
That's it. In section 1: news, private and public was seen to be essential, it still is.
By Federal Law, mandated by the Constitution, the government must maintain Post Offices and Postal Roads.
I bring this up because of COVID-19 and other situations are trying to get some GOP sloths to shut down
the USPS. By the fortunes of the gods, most R's have never read the Document that is the basis of our democracy.
At one point, Trump was asked to read a portion of the Constitution; not in the beautifully melodious and antiquated
calligraphic style, but New Times Roman 14pt. He complained, "these words are hard, can't we break this down?" I
had read and understood the Constitution since my third year in school.
As we go through COVID-19 or anything else that may come down the road, all of the oral platitudes, prayers, and
words of sympathy will never replace that card you get, unexpected, delivered by the USPS that will forever remind
you that you are loved and someone from across the country was willing to show it, expecting nothing in return
except your acceptance of that love.
