Chairman Bennie Thompson appreciation thread

His leadership of the J6 committee has been masterful.

50 years ago today

I put on my dress blues for the final time. I and about 20 other guys stood at attention as a Captain thanked us for our service, told us how much the Navy would miss us, handed us our DD-214s and officially released us from active duty.

That was damning!

I can't wait to read the final report.

They say that the coverup is worse than the crime,

I find it hard to imagine a worse crime than the attempted overthrow of a democratically elected government, especially when people died during the attempted coup.

How can I join the Underground Railroad?

I live in deep blue Massachusetts, where our (pro choice) Republican governor issued an executive order to protect patients and providers. Reproductive health care is safe here and our medical facilities are first-rate. I expect that women will be traveling to Mass to obtain the care they cannot get at home. I have a spare bedroom, and am willing to offer it to any woman who needs it.

What will it take to get meaningful gun reform through Congress and on the President's desk?

I don't know the answer, but here's a clue. The last time it happened was when Congress passed the Brady Bill. I'm not saying there's a cause-and-effect relationship here, but the Brady Bill was enacted after John Hinkley, Jr. shot Republican President Ronald Reagan. Is that what it will take? I shudder to think.

Happy 420!

Smoke 'em if you got 'em. Unless you prefer edibles, that is.

I am home.

As it turns out, the bacteria is the type which responds well to oral antibiotics, and the particular antibiotic which was prescribed is effective on bone infections. The visiting nurse came today and changed my dressing. I have the meds I need. It is so good to be home, and to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am so grateful for the love and support from the DU community. Thank you all.

Hospital update

It appears that the MRI, which showed no evidence of bone infection was wrong. The surgeon took a sample and sent it to the lab for culture. It will take a couple of days to know which bacteria is the culprit. I have been presented with two options, depending on the strain of bacteria. (1): Lose the toe, and all that it means. (2): Undergo a six-week course of tailored antibiotics in hopes of killing the infection and saving the toe.
Neither appears to be a good option. For now, it's wait and see.

Thanks to all who replied to my original post.
