Then and Now photographs of my house.....

Want to see what my house looked like about 130 years ago?

This was it in 2012, when we were repainting.

I've got to get a picture of it from the same angle and upload to photobucket!

My letter to Tom, aka Traitor, Cotton.

Dear Senator Cotton,

You have once again proven you are utterly unsuited to be in the US Senate. Your lack of knowledge of protocol and conduct has now been exposed to the rest of the world. You are an embarrassment to Arkansas. I really hope you get a ton of contributions from your Koch friends in the defense industry for attempting to provoke another useless, budget-busting war in the Middle East.

Just Look at What We've Done - 30,000th. post

I really don't think I can stand it anymore. My mind is filled with visions of the death, misery, and destruction my country has inflicted on the Middle East. I say Middle East because the results of our 'Project for the New American Century' have expanded beyond the borders of Iraq.

I came to DU after reading something Will Pitt had posted way back in late 2002. I was seeking anybody that agreed with me that invasion was the worst possible thing we could do. I found them on DU. I picketed, I protested, I marched on Washington, crying out, "Not in My Name". But it was futile.

I still have some travel books from the late 1990's that tell of the ancient wonders one might visit in Iraq and Syria. I wonder how many remain. There are pictures of a modern day Iraq under Saddam before the first Gulf War and the devastating sanctions that killed Iraq's economy and took the lives of a million people, mostly women and children. At that time, Iraqi women were able to vote, hold political office, own property, obtain an education, and those rights were a part of the Iraq's 1970 constitution! People had universal health care and educational opportunities. They lived in a secular state, side by side with various religious sects.

But G.W. Bush and the evil being, Cheney, could not be denied. And what is the result of a decade of 'war' and occupation? First there were the IEDs and suicide bombers that killed people trying to go about their lives ruined by unemployment, the disbanding of Iraq's army, the lack of electricity and clean water. Pensions were gone, as were government subsidies. Then more and more violence between the Sunnis and Shias. No body capable of ending it. Now these poor people live among the rubble of bombed buildings and cruel religious laws as ISIS or ISIL continues to grow. Thanks to the USA who created them and armed them.

There are 2 million widows and 5 million orphans created by this seemingly endless war. Women have lost most of their rights and are victims of men.

I think about the young Syrian boy I met in Alexandria, Egypt two years ago. His beaming smile and joy at finding an American to talk to. His parents had sent him to Egypt to avoid him being taken into the Syrian army. I wonder if his parents are still alive and I wonder if he isn't a part of ISIS now. The USA did this. We treated people in the Middle East as if they were animals. We starved their children and droned them and bombed them. And many Americans are amazed at how fast ISIS has grown.

I want to run, I want to flee this country. I want to stand on a hill and scream, "Please forgive me". I don't think I can stand much more.

Here's a picture of my 2014 Fair Cake, winner of Grand Prize. This was

my worst cake ever. Nothing would stay in place. 'Harry' actually fell from the tower during the fair last week. So, I killed Harry Potter with an 'egg whiteius disolvo' curse! The first picture is after I did a repair.

Gotta Read: What makes U.S. health care so overpriced? It’s not what you think

U.S. medical care is getting ever pricier, but it’s not because so many old people are running up charges, experts reported Tuesday. Most of the money’s being spent on people under 65 with chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease.

The perception is that a bigger proportion of the population is getting old and sick, and using more and more services. But Moses and colleagues say their review didn’t show that.

“In 2011, chronic illnesses account for 84 percent of costs overall among the entire population, not only of the elderly. Chronic illness among individuals younger than 65 years accounts for 67 percent of spending,” they found.

“Price of professional services, drugs and devices, and administrative costs, not demand for services or aging of the population, produced 91 percent of cost increases since 2000.”

This is my counter-argument to those who are yelling about men paying for maternity and infant care. I don't have diabetes nor heart disease. Yet I've been paying for those who do for more than a decade. (I really do understand that this how insurance works, but it's my comeback to those idiots who think each and every policy should be customized and priced.)

What would you do? There's this abandoned dog in my neighborhood.

He's been here at least 4 years and I started feeding him from the first. I did have Animal Control set up a huge cage trap in my back yard, but had it removed the next day after one of my cats ended up in it. Anyway, soon found out that others also fed him and we decided he was the neighborhood dog and called him LBD, for Lucky Black Dog.

I was unhappy because he's not neutered and has back leg dew claws that can sometimes grow into the leg. And of course he's had no vaccinations. Over the years, he's hung out with my cats and I have been able to touch him a couple of times.

A couple of weeks ago, LBD was running around with another loose dog and got into trouble. Some say he snapped at them on bikes or walking their small dogs. Animal control has traps set up in my woods and in other parts of the neighborhood and he made the local news.

Well, it was picked up and now is kind of 'international'. The 'Daily Mail' calls him the 'craftiest stray dog' in the world, having escaped capture over 92 times and including actually being shot with a tranquilizer dart.

This is my LBD! I'm terrified that somebody will now poison him or shoot him (both illegal)! I am in direct contact with Animal Control and have allowed free use of my 2 acre woods for attempts to get LBD. We have signed agreements that he will be turned over to an animal rehabilitator and he will be moved from his 'turf'.

Anybody have any ideas on how I can get this dog off the streets and safe?
