CFLDem's JournalMy Neighborhood Makes It Easier to Get Pregnant Than To Go To College
By Shanice Joseph Time Magazine
'You should get pregnant,' a friend told me. 'Girl, the government will take care of you, trust me.'
If I were to get pregnant, I would know just where to go for help: the local offices of Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), the federally funded food and nutrition program; Planned Parenthood; and the Family Resource Center. All three are places where I stood in line for hours with my siblings as a child growing up in Watts. But finding local resources to pursue higher education is harder. As one of the few community college students living in Watts, I cant find a place to print out an essay or get college-related advice.
When I ran into a friend who grew up in the same low-income housing development as I did, she said there was an easier way than to struggle through college. You should get pregnant, she told me. Girl, the government will take care of you, trust me.

Duplicate Thread Warning
Something that I think could be very helpful is a duplicate thread warning prompt for new threads to prevent the same news stories being posted over and over again.
I kind of imagine something like a prompt with a link that redirects the would-be poster to a list of recently created threads
about that topic.
Transparency Page Timeline
Would it be possible to reduce the time a hidden post counts against one's record from 90 days to something more reasonable like 60 days?
I think 60 days is a long enough timeout, and it's a way to err on the side of the accused, especially with the new 7 jury system that will be hiding more posts.
Watching cops on spike right now
and can't stop shaking my head wondering who thinks it's a good use of public funds to send three helicopters for half a dozen marijuana plants...
Bonnaroo 2014
So who's excited for the line up announcement next week? Any guesses on the RooClues so far? Possible headliners?
How could they?!
I can't believe the Seahawks would subject that raptor to all that noise and commotion of the Super Bowl.
It makes me upset to imagine how uncomfortable and stressing it is for that poor bird
Most frustrating thing about applying for jobs
(Besides not being called back) is that real full time jobs usually require nothing more than a CV and a cover letter while remedial part time jobs make me jump through all sorts of stupid hoops to apply in the first place.
I know why they do that, but still, it's almost seems more trouble than it's worth.
Oh well... Back to grind.
I love our medical system!
Went to the doctor for some $5 antibiotics. Get charged $130 by the Dr. just for the privilege since my deductible is stupid high.
And Republicans say this is the best system devised by humanity?
