WHITE MISSISSIPPI ANCHOR TERMINATED FOR USING SNOOP DOGG'S 'FO SHIZZLE, MY NIZZLE' PHRASE ON AIR

Source: Black Enterprise

According to Mississippi Clarion Ledger, a white Mississippi news anchor for WLBT may have been terminated for referencing a Snoop Dogg line. While speaking to a colleague on air while reporting on a story regarding the entertainer’s wine, Snoop Cali Blanc, she said, “Fo’ shizzle, my nizzle.” For those who aren’t necessarily hip-hop fans or as in tune with Snoop Dogg, that’s slang for “For sure, my n**ga.”

Barbie Bassett is the news anchor who uttered the phrase to another anchor during the televised program. This took place earlier this month on March 8, and she hasn’t been on air since, and her name is no longer listed on the news station’s website.

Bassett and WLBT anchor Wilson Stribling were reporting on Snoop’s latest entry to his Cali Wine Collection. At the end of the news report, Wilson jokingly stated that Bassett would be getting a Snoop Dogg tattoo on her shoulder. To which she responded, “Fo’ shizzle, my nizzle.”

Supreme Court declines to hear Kansas racial gerrymandering case, leaves congressional map in force

Source: CNN

(CNN)The US Supreme Court on Monday declined a request from voters in Kansas to review a state court decision they say allows for racial gerrymandering of congressional districts there.

In a controversial decision last year, the Kansas Supreme Court upheld a Republican-drawn map that had been blocked by a lower court over partisan gerrymandering and the dilution of minority voting strength. The new congressional map split Wyandotte County -- home to Kansas City -- into two congressional districts for the first time in several decades.

The court did not disclose a vote count.

The court's decision to not hear the case means that the newly redrawn map will remain in play.

Afroman Sued By Law Enforcement Officers Over Use Of Raid Footage

Source: Yahoo!

Rapper Afroman faces a lawsuit from Ohio law enforcement officers alleging that he invaded their privacy by using images of them raiding his house.

Afroman (real name Joseph Foreman) had his home raided in August 2022 by the Adam’s County Sheiff’s Office. They were looking for drugs and alleged kidnapping victims.

No charges were filed based on the raid. However, security cameras and footage from Foreman’s wife’s mobile phone were captured. Those images were used in subsequent videos mocking the situation.

“I asked myself, as a powerless Black man in America, what can I do to the cops that kicked my door in, tried to kill me in front of my kids, stole my money and disconnected my cameras?” Foreman said in an NPR interview. “And the only thing I could come up with was make a funny rap song about them and make some money, use the money to pay for the damages they did and move on.”

World Baseball Classic score: Japan holds off USA as Shohei Ohtani closes out team's third WBC champ

Source: CBS Sports

Japan defeated Team USA 3-2 on Tuesday night to win the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Japan, who went undefeated throughout the tournament, has now won three WBC tournaments: 2006, 2009, and 2023. They remain the only nation to win multiple tournaments, though Team USA would have joined them with a victory.

The Americans pulled out to an early lead, as Phillies shortstop Trea Turner launched a solo home run in the second to put them up 1-0. Turner's home run happened to make some history on both, country and tournament-wide levels. We'll touch on that more below. For now, just enjoy the moving pictures:

Team USA's lead didn't stand for long. Japan third baseman Munetaka Murakami, who homered 56 times last season and who drove in the game-winning run against Mexico on Monday, hit his own solo home run in the third inning to even the score. Take a look at this monster mash:

Japan would later take a 2-1 lead on a Lars Nootbaar fielder's choice. They would extend it to 3-1 on another home run, this one by first baseman Kazuma Okamoto.

'I know I'd win,' Gov. Justice says he'll announce Senate decision in next few days

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — West Virginia Governor Jim Justice (R) was interviewed live on national news Wednesday morning to talk about West Virginia’s school choice options and tax cuts, but Justice also said that if he decides to run for Senate, he thinks he will have a good chance at winning.

During the interview on Fox News‘ morning show “Fox & Friends,” Justice was asked if he plans to run for Senate as interviewers pointed out that since he signed the largest tax cut in West Virginia, his approval rating is much higher than the current seat holder, Sen. Joe Manchin (D).

Just like he answered in previous interviews, Justice said he is “seriously considering” running against Manchin but did not confirm. Justice said that the only reason he would run for Senate is because he is “a patriot” and that he is “worried about our country.” “That’s not hogwash, not political hogwash,” he said.

He also said that he will announce his decision to run or not “probably within the next very few days.”

What year will "dial-up warning" thread titles finally end?

I remember being surprised around 2007 seeing "dial-up warning" posts, not knowing that some still used it. However, I still see them. I can't help but wonder what year they will finally go extinct. 2030? 2035? Or will we still see them well past that?

Note: I am in no way bothered by these posts, I'm just generally curious. In fact, I kinda don't want them to end, as it gives DU a more retro feel. If anyone actually still uses diel-up, cool!

Manchin calls Biden administration priorities 'absolutely infuriating' after ESG veto

Source: The Hill

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) teed off on President Biden’s decision earlier on Monday to veto a bill that would have nixed a Labor Department rule on environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing.

Manchin, who was one of two Senate Democrats to vote with Republicans to overturn the rule on March 1, called Biden’s decision “absolutely infuriating” in a statement and panned the administration for putting its “radical” and “progressive agenda” ahead of the country’s needs.

“This Administration continues to prioritize their radical policy agenda over the economic, energy and national security needs of our country, and it is absolutely infuriating,” said Manchin, who is up for reelection next year. “West Virginians are under increasing stress as we continue to recover from a once in a generation pandemic, pay the bills amid record inflation, and face the largest land war in Europe since World War II.”

“The Administration’s unrelenting campaign to advance a radical social and environmental agenda is only exacerbating these challenges. This ESG rule will weaken our energy, national and economic security while jeopardizing the hard-earned retirement savings of 150 million West Virginians and Americans,” Manchin continued. “Despite a clear and bipartisan rejection of the rule from Congress, President Biden is choosing to put his Administration’s progressive agenda above the well-being of the American people.”

Chicago mayoral election: Who do you want to win?

The Chicago mayoral candidates are Paul Vallas and Brandon Johnson. In the primary, Vallas received 33 percent of the first-round vote, while Johnson won 21.57 percent of the vote. Since no one got to 50%, there will be a runoff on April 4.

So, who do you want to win, Paul Vallas or Brandon Johnson?
