“I take her at her word”

Va. Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax demands retraction from NBC over reports that he used profanity toward a

Source: Richmond Times Dispatch

A lawyer for Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax sent a letter to NBCUniversal demanding NBC correct reports from reporters that Fairfax directed profanities toward the professor who accused him of a sexual assault in 2004.

Rakesh Kilaru of Wilkinson Walsh + Eskovitz sent the letter Wednesday demanding NBC cease and desist from reporting that Fairfax said "f--- that b----" at Vanessa Tyson in a private caucus meeting on Monday night, and cease and desist from attributing any other false and unsubstantiated statements to Fairfax.

The letter said NBC reporting staff told Fairfax's communications director, Lauren Burke, that NBC would "be pulling the initial false reports," but said tweets from reporters remained online.

Breaking: Florida Republican State Senator Anthony Sabatini wore blackface (Photo found)

Democrats in Florida are calling for his resignation.
Some Florida Democrats are calling for the resignation of Republican state Rep. Anthony Sabatini after a photo of him wearing blackface in high school resurfaced this week — an image the lawmaker says is taken out of context.

The photo of Sabatini was mailed anonymously to media in Lake County, Fla., during his campaign last fall, the Orlando Sentinel reported Tuesday. It has taken on new life, however, amid recent blackface controversies involving other politicians, including Ralph Northam, the Democratic governor of Virginia.

I have a feeling this won't be the last Republican to be exposed. They wanted to play this game.
Play ball!

Pelosi: Let Virginians handle their issues

I am glad Pelosi didn't rush to judgment.
She said our leaders have to have the confidence of their constituents, but didn't assume anyone's guilt.
She said she is busy enough with other matters (which is true).

Can Cindy McCain be sued for her false human trafficking allegation?

In short, Cindy McCain called the cops on a mother because she didn’t look like her daughter. I am Hispanic and my son doesn’t look anything like me, because my wife is Caucasian and my son looks like her.
Being confronted and questioned by police is a very stressful situation for both parent and child, and we should not allow White ipeople (Or any person) to just sic the cops on us because we look different from our kids.
Cindy McCain is a racist

National Organization for Women also called for Keith Ellison to drop out of AG race

I read here that NOW (National Organization for Women) is calling for Justin Fairfax to resign due to an allegation of rape..
The organization also demanded that Keith Ellison drop out of the AG race that he later won.
The accuser in that case said she had video, but later said it was deleted by a hacker.
Their standard for guilt seems very low.

Dana Milbank: Trump is the one who needs to apologize the most

I found this column great:

Asked once about clearing up various falsehoods, such as claiming President Barack Obama tapped his phone, Trump replied, “Why do you say that I have to apologize?” Told that he could boost his legal argument for his travel ban by disavowing his anti-Muslim campaign rhetoric, he replied: “There’s no reason to apologize.”

On the other hand, he has demanded apologies from, among others, Hillary Clinton, Warren, bearish forecasters, the “fake news” media, CNN, ESPN and the cast of “Hamilton.” He has hailed an apology the New York Times didn’t offer him. And he expressed jealousy that ABC apologized to Valerie Jarrett for Roseanne Barr’s racist remarks but not for “the HORRIBLE statements made and said about me on ABC.”

Trump’s few apologies tend to be ironic: for bringing jobs back too quickly, for calling women beautiful, for the “terrible pain and suffering” Democrats caused Brett Kavanaugh, for insulting the real Pocahontas by calling Warren that name.

For Trump, apologizing is weakness. After years of mocking Obama’s “apology tour,” Trump boasted at a campaign event a year ago: “Last eight years, we’ve seen a lot of apologizing. Not any longer. We don’t apologize.”

My opinion of Vanessa Tyson's allegation against Justin Fairfax

I've always thought that the following factors would help the cause of a sexual assault victim.

1) Filling a police report
2) Did she sustain injuries during the alleged assault?
3) If the alleged victim chose not to file a police report, did she text friends not long after the encounter?
4) Did the alleged victim speak out against the alleged aggressor before he became famous?

In her statement, Ms. Tyson made it clear that she did not file a police report.
She makes it clear that she "first began telling friends about the assault" after learning that Mr. Fairfax was running for Lieutenant Governor in 2017.

In light of the absolute absence of proof or contemporaneous corroboration, I cannot believe Ms. Tyson at this point.
I would support Fairfax for Governor of Virginia.

Update: Fairfax says she stayed in touch with him for months after the incident. Tyson didn't say that in her statement, but if it's true, I will change my opinion from "I don't see evidence" to "She's straight up lying"

Northam vs. Republican governor

If you knew that the final result of Ralph Northam's resignation would be a Republican Governor in Virginia, what would you prefer? That Northam resign or stay?
