Glenn Greenwald falsely states that Bob Menendez "just barely" escaped prosecution

Today, Trump-loving russophile journalist Glenn Greenwald said:
https://twitter.com/theintercept/status/1003661488681308160

But Menendez didn't "just barely" escape such counts, as 10 out of the 12 jurors sided with him:

Politico (11-17-2017): "A juror leaving the federal courthouse in Newark on Thursday after the mistrial was declared said the Menendez jury was split, 10-2, with the majority believing New Jersey's senior senator was not guilty on most of the 18 counts he faced."

Threats of retaliatory tariffs prompted by Trump have cost Iowa pork industry $560M: report

Source: The Hill

Concerns over retaliatory tariffs from Mexico have cost Iowa pork producers roughly $560 million, the Des Moines Register reported Friday.

According to the newspaper, Iowa pork producers could take another hit if Mexico follows through on its threat to impose a 20 percent tariff on hams and pork shoulders from the U.S.

Producers in the state already face a 25 percent tariff on pork exports to China. But duties from Mexico - the largest export market for American pork by volume - could put further strain on producers.

Iowa is the largest pork producer in the U.S., according to Gregg Hora, the president of the Iowa Pork Producers Association. Hora told the Register that the threatened tariffs are "potentially devastating news for Iowa's pig farmers and the rural Iowa economy."

Trump won Iowa's top pork producing county (Sioux) with over 80%. I hope they're having fun.

Son of close Carson friend hired at HUD

Source: CNN

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson will name the son of his close friend and business associate as deputy chief of staff, the department confirmed Wednesday.

Alfonso Costa Jr., 29, is expected to join the department in the coming weeks, a source familiar with the decision told CNN.

The arrival comes as one of Carson's closest political aides, deputy chief of staff Deana Bass, leaves the department and shortly after a relative novice to housing policy, Andrew Hughes, was promoted to chief of staff.

"Alfonso Costa Jr. is a graduate of Yale, Oxford and Harvard Law," HUD spokesman Raffi Williams said in a statement to CNN. "If his academic achievements are any indication of success, we are confident he will make significant contributions to the Department. The Secretary looks forward to having him serve as trusted and valued adviser."

My prediction on Trump's auto and steel/aluminum tariffs

Trump will impose tariffs on neither autos or European steel and aluminum.

My prediction is due to Trump’s penchant for making a threat, negotiating, getting a ridiculously insignificant concession, amd portraying the small concession as YUGE.

Maggie Haberman (NYT) under fire for calling Trump's lies "falsehoods" while calling Hillary a liar

Today Trump was proved to have lied about the New York Times having faked an interview with a White House official.
https://twitter.com/maggieNYT/status/1000405829928083456

But model Chrissy Teigen noted that Trump's "demonstrable falsehoods" are nothing but lied:
https://twitter.com/chrissyteigen/status/1000409678050832384

Many on Twitter have noted that Maggie Haberman had no problem calling the Hillary campaign/DNC liars:

Teigen argues that Ms. Haberman is terrified of losing access to the White House:

The media will declare Trump a savior if he simply meets with Kim Jong Un

If anyone persuades Kim Jong Un to destroy his existing nuclear bombs, that person will deserve lots of credit.
But the expectation among the media and Trump's team is that simply getting together in a room at all will be a hit.

Trump expects to use this as a tool to paint himself as a pacifist, as he moves the Israeli embassy to Jerusalem causing dozens of deaths, and as he participates in the bombing of civilians in Yemen; supports Duterte's violence in the Philippines, etc.

Let's be ready to call out the media for lowering the bar on Trump as usual.

Border Patrol agent kills undocumented woman in Texas

Source: CNN

An undocumented immigrant was shot and killed Wednesday by a Border Patrol agent in Rio Bravo, Texas, according to US Customs and Border Protection.

The agent was responding to a report of illegal activity near a culvert and discovered a group of undocumented immigrants, the agency said. The agent tried to apprehend the group, but he came under attack by people using blunt objects. The agent fired at least one round, fatally wounding one person, CBP said.

The woman was shot in the head, said Fire Chief Juan C. Gonzalez of Rio Bravo Fire & Rescue. She still had a pulse when the department arrived at the scene at 12:47 p.m., he said. But by the time his team got supplies, she no longer had a pulse, Gonzalez said.

Members of the department performed CPR for eight minutes before EMTs arrived and pronounced her dead, Gonzalez said.

Hillary Clinton backs Stacey Abrams in Georgia Democratic governor's race

Source: CNN

Hillary Clinton has waded into the Georgia governor's race, recording a robocall that urged Democratic voters to back former state House minority leader Stacey Abrams in Tuesday's primary.

Clinton endorsed Abrams, a favorite of progressives who is seeking to become the nation's first African-American female governor, over moderate former state Rep. Stacey Evans.

"A Yale educated attorney, Abrams is the only candidate with bold new plans to ensure Georgians have access to good jobs, quality public schools, affordable child care and higher education," Clinton said in the call, noting, in a reference to the candidates' similar names, that it's "Abrams, with an 'A.'"

Clinton's robocall for Abrams shows that her support is still in demand in certain races. Clinton was backed overwhelmingly by black voters in the South in the 2016 primary and general election.

China gives Trump $1/2 billion loan. Then, ZTE is off the hook; no tariffs

After China finances a Donald Trump project in Indonesia, Trump gives China a sweet deal.
Even the Murdoch-owned Wall Street Journal said China won this one:
https://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-shies-from-pressing-his-advantage-in-china-trade-fight-1526981400

Vox says: "Trump backs away from China trade war, while a Trump development gets a $500 million Chinese loan"

We are witnessing corruption at its worst as Trumps becomes richer thanks to his position as President.

Sad.
