Leftist Movies of the 1930-70s?
From any country.. It doesn't even have to be political, although "The Grapes of Wrath" have a few references. Many of the neo-realist movies, for example, usually about family struggles due to the anti-labor system, anti-working class.
A movie with heart.
Favorite US Senator of all-time?
I'd avoid current Senators because their work isn't finished, and not enough time has been evaluated for those who've retired recentl.
For me, it's easily, Senator Eugene McCarthy, who dumped LBJ, and ran as an anti-war candidate during Vietnam, but was derailed when RFK got into the race, and when he was murdered, many dispersed all over (Humphrey, even Wallace).. That takes guts. Doing the right thing and not just to feel good for 10 minutes.
Probably the wittiest politician I've ever heard. Adlai Stevenson, too.
"They Shoot Horses, Don't They?"
If you want a great picture of society, watch this movie, starring Jane Fonda.
Favorite SC Justice in US History?
William O. Douglas... Of course, he'd be considered too much of a partisan liberal today who never shied away from Vietnam, wasn't afraid to grant a temporary stay of execution for the Rosenbergs, and even said that trees had rights, "Trees have standing" was a clever way of putting it. Very clever and witty man.
I don't know anyone who can stand all the non-answers during the confirmation process, but the second they are, they become activist judges. Like in the 2000 election when the American people spoke. All 5 of them!
ACLU - Conservative?
When I was in college, the ACLU came to my university, so of course I went... During the Q&A session, a gentleman asked the host about the lack of conservatism. She replied back with "The ACLU is the oldest conservative institution", end of discussion. I found it interesting, but I'm wondering if she was referring to upper-case or lower-case. I wouldn't want a post of mine taken down because of a lack of consensus or definition on sources. I think defending the 1st amendment shouldn't be a partisan issue. Just like the environment and infrastructure shouldn't be either; a bad bridge doesn't collapse when there's only drivers of one political bent, just like bad air and water (Flint and thousands of other cities you haven't heard about)
Thanks For The Welcome! Hi!
Hi everyone. I couldn't find an Introduction sub-category, but then got an e-mail... But I did post this, which says a lot about me

I love music, movies, comedy. Obviously, I'm a political person. I last worked for Bernie Sanders, but have also participated in strikes and protests in US (birthplace) and in Australia, Thailand, Greece, Hungary, etc.. I love traveling, spent almost 25% of my adult life backpacking (Europe-5x, Australia-2x, Asia for a month, and many trips around N. America) trying to learn as much as I can about people and places. But also as a musician and author, it's great to be able to play music, despite not knowing more than a few words. Speaking which, I love language, too.
Favorite Music, Movies, Comedy?
Besides the pleasure from great works of art, it seems art people all over the world have an impression based on art, especially movies. I spent almost 25% of my adult life backpacking around the world, and when I'd inquire how they were able to grasp the English language, they'd always mention movies. Many would also say how the English taught in schools didn't prepare them for everyday life (for those who emigrated to Australia, for example).
Besides entertainment, I think it can have a positive influence on life. I also figure by listing them down, if I were to like 90% of your favorite bands, but didn't know the other 10%, there'd be a good chance I, or someone else, might.
