The Nazification of America

You are witnessing it in real time

And they are proud of it. If you showed Cabaret as a new film, there’d be many objecting to it on the grounds of it being one-sided.

Moscow Mitch is excoriating the malevolent sociopath while ensuring that he is getting a pass.

You know, I was thinking last night as I drifted off to sleep

that all the movies and fun stories about mobsters are great for entertainment purposes, but when you see a real low life mobster in action, who is in a position to destroy the very fabric of the country in which we live, it’s not entertaining. It is frightening. The ruthlessness with which they ordered this nightmare to occur, the support given by senators and others of import and power to this sociopath and his family is overwhelmingly frightening and despicable. Films like the Godfather were designed to both romanticize and explain the existence of this crowd and films such as Goodfellas attempted to show the crass and violent side of their work lives, But I’ll tell you that for me the most frightening aspect of this was the way the crowd via their leader was looking to assassinate none other than Mike Pence, the vice president of the United States of America.

I hold no briefs for this toady, whose unctuous religiosity nauseates me, but the fact that this group of amateur storm troopers could convict him in their minds of a capital crime and look to lynch him is beyond the pale. One can only imagine what would’ve happened had they caught up with any of the representatives or senators from the left, particularly the females. This of course is a microcosm of America and representative of a tremendous number of people with whom we rarely if ever come into contact on a daily basis, but who most definitely exist in the background of our lives.

So many people have said to me during the last few days that they have been unable to watch this since it occurred because it’s so horrifying, and it gives credibility to the great movie line that they “can’t handle the truth”. I understand this, it’s like watching a battlefield in real time and forever being scarred by the images. I have to tell you that as a sentient individual I watched the Kennedy assassination‘s aftermath, the resultant societal tumult following the deaths of Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy, The horrors of Vietnam and other wars, as depicted in newsreel footage and seeing the wounded and despondent come home, the nightmare that was 9/11, and countless other minor incidents which affected my emotions greatly, But I will tell you that I have never had my soul shaken as I have been watching all of this. It is, to borrow a phrase, the sum of all fears. These are the people among whom we live, work, and play. They are capable of any behavior when they congregate in masses. Make no mistake, it is not over, it will never be over, and we will have to find a way to manage this group that has been given voice by this tinhorn Mussolini who ruled this country for four years.

I'm gonna go out on a big limb....

In a lifetime of watching politicians, many of whom were hypocritical, lying, and/or corrupt, I must say that absolutely no politician has revolted me as much as Lindsay Graham does. At one time, Orrin Hatch was my clear winner but he’s been eclipsed.

Trump does not qualify as a politician: he’s a psychopathic war criminal.

Now this was FUNNY:

On msnbc somebody just said that they didn’t know which lawyer had the worst day: Bruce Castor or the cat lawyer from Texas. Good point.

A few thoughts:

The Democrats are the Party of humanism, inclusion, morality, promotion of intellect, among other attributes. This has never been clearer than yesterday’s exposition of law, justice, and raw emotion.

Topic 1 of 2: it has come to my attention via Republicans sympathetic to Trump’s “plight” that he can be indicted and tried in the traditional fashion reserved for seditionists and traitors. I vote to take their suggestion to heart: And for those who would object to this due to his popularity, I might remind them that Al Capone was popular in Chicago and stood trial. It can easily be done. It might be the greatest moment in modern American history to have the entire Trump criminal empire and criminal crew exposed. It would make Watergate And Iran Contra pale in comparison and would eclipse the OJ trial in terms of viewership and societal focus. I say, do what has to be done.

Topic 2 of 2: Somebody needs to sit down with Ari Melber and have a serious conversation with him. To be specific, I was driving home and streaming MSNBC in my car and in the middle of a serious political discussion, he pulls out a quote from the rapper Eminem. In the midst of this crisis in America, this near apocalyptic moment which we endured on January 6, this attempt to make the case that an autocratic individual nearly destroyed the fabric of this country, this most serious moment which all of us have endured following World War II and the Cuban missile crisis, with all the Literature available, with all the philosophy written, with all the religious texts disseminated throughout the world, at this remarkable instant in time, this idiot quotes a rapper. For the 875th time. In the last six months. It is so embarrassing, so puerile, so base, So trivial, so ignorant, so petty, so insignificant of depth and understanding of the gravity of this situation that if this had occurred in a high school in which I was teaching I would have informed the student that he was beginning his presentation with the grade of C minus. As an aside, if he were a relative of mine I would be so embarrassed for him pretending to be in sync with the community of rappers. Every day, it’s like watching Steve Martin in the opening scenes of The Jerk. As a fellow Jew, old enough to be his father or smart uncle, I am appalled at his desperate attempt to be a star-f—ker. He’s a lawyer and reporter/broadcaster: he should act like one. This untoward behavior causes many to roll their eyes and dismiss him outright. His show is presently an asterisk in the schedule, and very disappointing.

I'm gonna say something about this Nazi POS MTG....

I don't know if this has been said here before but I awakened thinking this:

the reason...THE REASON...that this hideously bigoted, intellectually benighted, anti-Semitic lunatic-conspiracy-theorist-disciple has gotten this far is not obvious.

Now for the explanation, and please stay calm: when I was growing into my adolescence in the Sixties and early Seventies, there was a type of novel published in paperback, available at certain bookstores and newsstands. They were known as "Sleaze Paperbacks" - I'm certain many of you partook of them - they were a common form of what we used to call "release material". Interestingly, there were many significant writers who wrote thousands of these under pen names, one such writer was Robert Heinlein of Science Fiction fame, but I digress.

For the uninitiated, they presented as follows: the female protagonist was either a hero or a villain, and if the former, often worked for government agencies or secret companies who of course, were the "good guys" and of course the initials of the agencies were, for example, N.Y.M.P.H.O or L.U.S.T. - you get the picture - and the story would involve her adventure bringing down some evil leader of a whole cabal using her wits and various body parts. Now, the language used in these was very different from today's pornography, it was more "civilized" and very descriptive in a formal literary sense. Every so many pages, the narrative would involve a "scene" and you could find these scenes by skipping to pages which had long paragraphs. But I digress again.

The endings were always satisfactory and you'd be all set for her next adventure.

Now there's the villainess: these books were really dark, the lady would be portrayed as pure evil in stark sexual form: black leather dress, pointy heels, lots of hair falling heavily to her shoulders, rituals of sexual torture and death involving extreme prurience followed by descriptions of extreme suffering. These books, while erotic in their own right, were extremely disturbing and they stayed with you, sometimes FOREVER. Trust me. There was one scene i cannot to this day, get out of my mind 55 years after i read it standing in a bookstore while my mom was shopping for holiday presents in the same store. But I digress for the last time.

Now to the covers of the books: invariably the cover depicted a pre- or post- sexual encounter with the individuals posed provocatively: the vast number of these were drawings, some color, many in black and white, depicting the "thrust" of the plot. Many of these were drawn, painted, or photographed by legitimate artists who made good money doing this work. These books sold well. (It must be noted for the record that there were many subjects that would absolutely be taboo these days including pedophilia and incest, and people today would (rightfully) go directly to jail for possession or publication of these materials). The women were almost always portrayed as huge-breasted, narrow-waisted, long-legged and there was not much left to the imagination, and in some regions, there was no censorship for drawn nudity. None. At all whatsoever.

To my point: this "lady" from Georgia, a state which has given us much to cheer about in the last couple months, is a character out of one of the latter category of novels. Her campaign ad, paraded around so effectively by Steny Hoyer on the House Floor yesterday, was a cover of one of those books. Standing there in tight-fitting costume, blond hair cascading down, holding an AR-15, with three frightened faces of ladies staring in her direction, mouths in fearful rictus, with the vicious inscription below the composite photos, this is just like one of those books.

This appeals to the prurience inherent in many individuals and the desire to experience sexual violence with all the overtones. and by the way, if you think for one moment that this was a province of males, I will tell you that I had a coworker when I first became a dentist who was a young lady who had these books hidden in her apartment and at work and would read them voraciously and got away with it because she would tape legitimate literature covers to these books. (The reason I discovered this is that I saw a suspiciously thin copt of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island on her shelf in her treatment room. I thought perhaps it was a condensed version and when i opened it....well, DU rules prevent me from telling you the subject matter.

But this Congresswoman embodies this fantasy come to life, and the haters, bigots, and general all-around creeps have an icon to replace Trump. and also, please notice that her fellow Congresswoman, Ms. Boebert, a brunette, has garnered somewhat less attention, although as far as I'm concerned, they're two peas in a pod. Perhaps the old Clairol ad rings true once again: Is it true blondes have more fun?

If one describes having "fun" as being a pure malignant sociopath, then perhaps so.

I have a list of attorneys and collateral references for Trump and his family.

From Nuremberg Trials:

Georg Fröschmann, Heinz Fritz (Hans Fritzsche), Otto Kranzbühler (Karl Dönitz), Otto Pannenbecker (Wilhelm Frick), Alfred Thoma (Alfred Rosenberg), Kurt Kauffmann (Ernst Kaltenbrunner), Hans Laternser (general staff and high command), Franz Exner (Alfred Jodl), Alfred Seidl (Hans Frank), Otto Stahmer (Hermann Göring), Walter Ballas (Gustav Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach), Hans Flächsner (Albert Speer), Günther von Rohrscheidt (Rudolf Heß), Egon Kubuschok (Franz von Papen), Robert Servatius (Fritz Sauckel), Fritz Sauter (Joachim von Ribbentrop), Walther Funk (Baldur von Schirach), Hanns Marx (Julius Streicher), Otto Nelte (Wilhelm Keitel), and Herbert Kraus / Rudolph Dix (both working for Hjalmar Schacht).

They’re all supposedly dead but maybe they’re actually frozen beneath the Pizza place where it all takes place, you know, that subterranean complex where the witchcraft and cannibalism occurs, and the Jewish Space Laser Control Center is located.

A rhetorical question:

(Since we all know the answer)...

Does it not occur to these right wing assholes that Charles Manson had a defense counsel, John Wayne Gacy had a defense counsel, David Berkowitz had a defense counsel, Jeffrey Dahmer had a defense counsel, and this Former President of the United States of America performed acts so indefensible that he cannot find a lawyer who will stay with him, so how can they be so bold as to defend this clearly morally-indefensible behavior, when mass murderers have no problem finding a firm of lawyers to perform their duties?

Torturous sentence structure but you get my drift....

January 26, 2021

All right...anyone else irked by this....?

Have you noticed recently that in all the cable shows, NPR, Network News shows and the like, the moderator will ask a question and the guest prefaces his or her answer with the statement: “That is a really good question...” or “I’m glad you asked that particularly insightful question...”

That’s a version of what we used to call logrolling: Norman Mailer would review Philip Roth’s book in the New York Review of Books and two months later Philip Roth would review Norman Mailer’s book. Both VERY positive reviews.

Yes I know.... but I have to obsess about something.

January 23, 2021

Ya wanna know how effed up things are? No? Tough...

I'm signed up on like 15 lists for my vaccine...I'm 1a and have four...count 'em four predisposing issues which are of concern if I were to contract COVID-19. i see about 60 people a day in my practice and have been looking for an appointment. As an aside, my own doctor called me two weeks ago asking me if I knew anywhere he could get a vaccine, that's how disorganized things are here in Philly.

So I'm deleting my emails for the week and I see one with a title:

INFO

no subhead...no nothing

For some reason, I opened it and lo and behold it was an invitation to attend the Phila Convention Center for a vaccine...TODAY, 9:30-12:30. I opened it...no lie, at 12:29. Of course the irony, right...not that i could drive 60 miles in 60 seconds, but you get the idea. If the title had been VACCINE or APPT FOR VACCINE i'd have seen it among the 350 or so emails I receive in a day. But noooooooo.......

Sissy dood crap. And yes...it's my own damn fault for not assuming that everything is totally fucked up.
