Susan Sarandon says Biden is pulling a 'bait and switch' by promising $2,000 stimulus

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9229351/Susan-Sarandon-says-Biden-pulling-bait-switch-reduced-stimulus-checks.html

Susan, I understand that someone as rich as you may not need to do much math, but let me break this down, we got 600, and now we will get the 1400 that trump and the GOP denied us. I understand you are still afraid to admit you were a useful idiot for the GOP, and that when THREE supreme court justices rob women of abortion and rob gays of the right to marry, YOU, yes YOU, will be the one getting the finger pointed at you, justifiably so. You do a threat that dems may not show in 2022, trying to be the king and queen maker. Sorry, while the Biden admin does not to et a bit more agressive, we know what we got with you, nader and Stein, a whole lot of Jack-S**T, and that is exactly what those of us who are actually doing the work to improve this country will give YOU.

is Chris Coumo right and if so, what can we do?

Last night, Chris Coumo said that if the Dems use reconciliation, there will be cuts to programs including Medicare. Is this true, and if so, what can we do about it?

The Democrats Have a Mandate. Why Won't They Use It?

https://eand.co/the-democrats-have-a-mandate-why-wont-they-use-it-9236aeaca655

This article will make a lot of people angry, but it is the truth.

Hear is a meaty cut from the article:

The point is that in a democracy, you will never have unity. It just doesn’t happen. There will always be someone somewhere who dissents. Even in times like these, of pandemic and coup. Maybe they’re just grandstanding and trying to get attention. Maybe they’re just morons. Who cares? Trying to pursue them and pander to them is a recipe for disaster.

Why? Because when you try to pander to the last holdouts of extremism, malice, stupidity, and ignorance, in the name of “unity,” you end up squandering the power you have. You don’t use your power, because you’re too busy hoping that Steve the Fascist and Jim the Theocrat back you. But they don’t, for the simple reason that they’re fanatical extremists who don’t believe in democracy.

Qanon, a questiona and theory

OK, I admit that when i thought of this, I thought of it as a joke, then I pondered;

What if Qanon i actually a trick bu the Russians, or any other power that knows America really well? Think about it, this Q person is literally causing damage, and no one knows who he is.

If it was a psy op, it is effective and cheap.

The captol beer hall pustch: thoughts and a few thorny issues:

https://www.npr.org/sections/congress-electoral-college-tally-live-updates/2021/01/07/954446008/authorities-identify-woman-killed-by-police-during-u-s-capitol-rioting

OK, the above article will inform a lot of this, but not all. I confess, I am very upset when I see what happened yesterday: another interation of that classic Fascist standard: the Beer Hall Putsch. A mob takes over an area, causes a stir, but in the process, even as they are defeated, they gain the martyrdom that is a deadly weapon for any movement.

I have no doubt that the right wing will make Ashly Babbitt some sort of martyr. That they will smooth over the sharp edges (like the fact she was dying in an act of violence), or the fact she swallowed Qanon whole. It is a part fo fascism to ensure the dead become saints. Note how people like Hitler and Nathan Bedford Forrest are sainted, how hard it is too even pull down statues of these folk.

I do not want to react with hate, because then I will become WHAT I hate. On the other hand, I do find it very hard to show empathy for the sort of people that tried so hard to demonize me, and ruin the world I live in, starting with what was my nation.

Do I think that there is a large part of the working class that feels hollowed out, that does feel that those who loved the Tech Barons and media Magi did let them hang while outsourcing and Nafta did do deadly damage. Yes. If we are going to deal with civil rights, we have to deal with the economic. the sheer fact that the working class as a whole has been shafted, BUT, we also have to put front that of this working class, the browns and Blacks are still "last hired, First fired." No, America is not going to be some socialist revolution like some people dream of, but at the very least, the power billionaires have iin this country needs to be put to hell, hard! Until we do, they will feed pouring gasoline on Fascism's fires, because they profit off it.

However, before I start a socialist Kum By Ya, we have to be blunt: Yes, ever coveted White Working class got screwed, and the Black and brown working class got screwed harder, sometimes with the active participation of the white working class. I can remember growing up in the Rust Belt, where Unions hated Latinx. I even remember reading democratic Underground, where people spoke of Latinos as threats to American workers; I had to get the same BS the right wing sites fed, from the place that was supposed to be for solidarity. Bernie Sanders, I love you, but the way some of your followers outright attacked Black people for daring to question his credentials as savior was a LOW POINT. Some of these white area that do indeed, have poverty, are often the same ones that would proudly beat up anyone that tried to help them, and even after the help comes, they still talk of Obama as if he were some alien.

My point is, I want too keep my idealism up, not just because it is "nice", but because I know that if I internalize the hate, It will be doing the bigot's job for them. Now, am I going to lie and deny the thoughts I have, like the fact I know their beloved Putin would have killed most of these people, and sent the rest to the gulag? Oh, that demon is blowing virtuoso solos in my head right now, I will admit it. I am also very, very tired of the "hillbilly elegy" type pieces that sat "if only YOO uppity city folk would help us and respect us and admit we are better than YOO, we would vote left on oak-ay-shun." I even get tired of Michael Moore sometimes:he is perhaps America's most honest, eloquent voices of working class, and few have dared to expose the rot underneath the mask as he, but when he sails over the fact that many of his working class whites hate us, I want to scream! Still, I realize that if America is going to work, it has to work for everyone, which means, rights and responsibilities.

I will not allow myself to hate because I am hated, though I think I can some here and say to many of you here on DU: "It is hard, especially at a time like this." Confessions is supposed to be good for the soul, I will let you know if it is.

Why Biden shouldn't extend an olive branch to Republicans

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/nov/26/why-biden-shouldnt-extend-an-olive-branch-to-republicans

Look, we know that a certain mantra is being practiced in the rehearsal hall's of the party. It has various courses, various variations, but the call will be to get things back to "normal", to "reach across the aisle".It is the same mantra that got played in 1992, it is the same mantra that got played in 2008, and any other time when the Democrats beat the GOP. Then, as now, the party one because a lot of minorities got out to vote: Blacks, browns, and white women who had to endure the attacks of everything from police brutality media crucifixion.

Yet, there is already here a command being issued from on high "thou shalt not risk the anger of the white voter!" Never mind that many of that coveted block can and will backstab if the GOP strums the right heartstrings. Even though most people remember that they had more money when Democrats were in office, the majority here is the notes the GOP plays and are hypnotized by siren songs, voting for the very people who frankly oppress them.

Now let me be clear, I am not saying that we put on Che berets and act out some of the fantasies that have no basis in reality. Yes Mitch is going to try everything he can to obstruct anything he can, until the day his turtle shell is finally carried out of capital. Is that the left of the party has to at least have a chance on stage, and that yes we do have to make Mitch fight for every inch of ground, too much of our previous negotiations have been conceding 60 to 70% of what the opponent wants before we even get to the table, which means that they know they can go ahead and get at least 70 to 80% of what they want. Then the powers that be have a few measly slices and then say "well that's really all we could get, but remember to send in your party donations!"

No, this time around we have to be willing to fight! Yes, yes we have no illusions about that that we are running uphill, and that many people on the so-called "center" are going to be doing their best sniper our backs as we run uphill. Even in this very newsgroup, here the hatred that some people have for aoc and her fellow "squad", even though they did mobilize the youth, and the women in order to get that crucial bit of ground this election.

The real unity that can help us is that even when the right side of the Democrats disagree with the left side of the Democrats, we realize that we do have each other's back, and that we will need to play both good cop and bad cop with the GOP. Good cop and bad cop only works when the subject realizes that there is a realistic chance that Bad COp can show up; the GOP wants to kill Obama care, well then we can push the Medicare for all, and when people seem to like Medicare for all, then the GOP can finally offer some things to us that are not slices that are called "half a loaf." Yes we need to work together, but the place from which we do work together has to be a place that is not interested in placating the GOP. We are not going to walk out and extend an olive branch knowing that the GOP has a machine gun nest in the right where we would step, we have to make them a lean left of their comfort zone. We won the election, we cannot step right word into their comfort zone, because it is their element. They are very successfully played the game where they have turned the Blacks, browns, and yes white women and said "we know that we can make the Democrats abandoned, so why not come over to the winning side?"

Yes we work together, but we do it in a way that demands that even the GOP give us something real, or they pay for it in the press. The most successful lawyers will tell you that most lawsuits are not done and actually went, but to make the client broke. We need to start making the GOP get exhuasted, get them to the point where they keep fighting the same old fight, they are either going to get knocked down or at least be vulnerable to those that want to rip them up. We need to take advantage of the fact that most of this country does not trust the GOP, bipartisan initiatives are giving air to them while they are choking, so let's not give them any more oxygen.
